Fine connector work!

I just redid the connectors on my phono cable. What a hassle. There were two very fine conductors which had to go to the center post and grounding ring of each RCA connector. Then the cable shield also had to connect to the grounding ring. I'm not much for this very fine work... I guess I'll find out tonight when I hook it up how many more tries I'll have to make at it. :D

I'm not one for fine connection work yet either, otherwise I would have rewired my TT also.

Hope it works out for you on the first try.

I've been living with an intermittant ground for years because I hate messing with this fine stuff. It would be fine for a few weeks then all of a sudden start cutting off or making noises. Move it around several times and I was good for another month. Hopefully this fixes it. And it still works...

I went through this when I rewired the RB-250 on my old Rega. I nice adjustable heat iron with a small tip makes it easier.

    Good Luck on yours.

What kind of cables did you go with and how much of a difference did you notice. The OEM Rega cables appear very cheap on my P1.

There is a real talent in working on this stuff (most patience) especially when you have to fab parts from what you can find from conventional sources. It is often more of a mechanical problem to install parts, cables, jacks, etc, than an electrical one.

They are DIY made from RG-316 shielded coax. I first had to remove the cheap original cables from the molded end that fits the bottom of the arm. Then fit the new cables through the old holes and solder to the PCB. Last was to resolder the tone arm wires to the opposite side of the PCB. The lesson learned here is patience.
