For two channel...LSi, and depending on the speaker, a DSWmicropro4000 sub. I think. 90% certain, but not 100%.

    No.
I personally like the LSI9's the most used with a separate sub. Also you will need an amp.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Hi carversound. Here is the product page for the lineup of floorstanders.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/products/individual/floorstanding/

From what I have heard already, the LSi series gives the best sound for 2-channel listening, but as you see, the LSi25 and 15's both have a built in sub. An LSi9 bookshelf speaker with sub would be best suited for you from what I know. Don't let the size of the LSi9 fool you for what sound it produces. I have personally seen it turn many heads without a sub.

There maybe another lineup that I am not aware of [or haven't heard] in Polk's current line up that is best suited for 2-channel listening, hopefully others will chime in with more information. Do you possibly have a store you can demo the lineup in? You might find that another lineup better suits your preferences.

That's a matter of personal preference. It will always boil down to that. Personally, I prefer the LSi series and it seems that many folks on this board seem to like the 9's and the 15's.

I've been looking at speakers as well & here's how I've heard Polks described:

    Monitor series - Good
    RTi - A series - Better
    LSi series - Best

Thank you for the kind words. What kind of music do you listen to? How patient are you? What kind of room size do you have?

Hehe. That totally depends on everything , including personal preference as some swear by all of the Amazings and ALIII's as being the best. Personally, I like the Plat's. The only Plat that you would be interested in would be the original Platinum Edition and not the MKIV, as they are not bi-ampable. FYI, they would also be in your price range.

How far can you put the speakers away from the wall? Would three feet from the back wall be acceptable for you....and at least 2 feet from the outer walls?

The Amazings, as it has been said many times, are a pair of speakers that should own in their lifetime. You also have the comparison between a close to vintage speaker and a brand new one with a warrantee. I can appreciate your budget, but even though all parts are still repairable/serviceable on the Carver's....the parts/repair can still add up.

I'm gonna shoot you a PM in a couple of minutes.

I really enjoy the lsi 9's. I enjoy it more then the 15's and 25's. The 9's to me are much more versatile in placement for sound. I have four of them setup with two subs. I have them setup in a relatively large living room and it sounds great. Going with two channel setup would still work out great, I would worry more about getting a good amp to power them with. Adcom for instance.
