Ok. i borrowed a friends Ford Explorer and his factory head unit displays the radio station and the song title for every song.

I know the radio stations broadcast that information in their on air signal. but what is that feature called on the head unit? I don't think it's HD radio either.

If I were to buy a head unit in the under $250 range, would it likely have that feature or is that usually reserved for the high end units?

tanks!

I had a Dension DH100ix that would do that. It only had FM station tuner though, no AM.

It was 400 dollars new back in the day.

I haven't even used the radio of my Eclipse CD7100 though, but considering how unfriendly it is I doubt it does.

It's called RDS, Radio Data System and not every station uses it and if they do, not all of them update it.
