RTA15rdo's, and caps

Well I was doing inventory of parts here, and cleaning a bit. I had some MW6502 woofers in the RTA15TL's with a different inductor. I wanted 4ohm RTA's. Well Now I don't want 4 ohms. I want 8. So I was changing the woofers out, and looked at the XO. I wasn't planning on doing an upgrade for a while, but I saw a 12uf, 20uf, 2ohm resistor, and I had the caps, resistors, and some RDO's kicking around. I ended up using Morels for my custom SDA's, but the RTA15TL's have a beveled cut out for the tweeter. So in go the RDO's. I wanted to use the Dayton 12uf, but they are longer than the Solen's. So I did it all in Solen's with a Mill's 12w 2ohms. I am rewiring my big ones now so I guess I'll get an ear on them later:)

Ouch. I thought they were going to be enjoyable to listen to seeing the caps were broke in. I forgot about those RDO's being new. I wish I could put it on repeat, crank it ,and leave!

Here is a pic. I might change out the resistor for a larger value to tame the tweeter if it doesn't chill out soon! I can always change it back:)

You of all people should be a little bit more patient and let the damn tweeters burn in, silly :D. It took quite awhile for my 5B's to finally sound good.

Give the RDO's a few more days, then ditch them if they dont work out. Go Peerless. Peerless sound great right out of the box, no breaking in, no crying for days.. Screw those RDO's....lol

I wish I could just crank them for a weekend, and come back:) My buddy, and I were just cranking some Nickel Back, and he says "what is that sound coming from that speaker?". It comes, and goes. Like you guys said, and I know better. IT just takes time!

I had them cranked for a while. I was listening, and one just "broke", and in 10 minutes more the other "broke". They mellowed right out. I wasn't going to crazy on them. About 100 watts each, and they all of a sudden just smoothed out. Anyone have a similar experience. I know they are not broke in all the way, but they sound a lot better! I don't want to ram ice picks in my ears anymore:)

I have heard them right out of the box. They were not as bad as you discribed. I wonder if Polk changed something about them. I;m glad they are working out for you.

    The RDO's? Probably 30-40 watts.

I have just been spoiled by my Morels. I have never had the opportunity to get my ears on some peerless. I may at some time get some for a small tube rig. Maybe build a mini SDA2b-peerless.

The RTA15's can handle 250 watts max. The tweeter never sees this much power.

    Sounding better.
    Ipod Tube/integrated
    Silver speaker wire's, and IC's
    Still a little hot.
I have been playing with my old JVC Receiver, and removed a few parts. I am thinking about building a tube/integrated with some nuts.

It worked perfectly fine. I had it since 1987. It was over a grand for the system, and it had sentimental value, but I hooked it up, and what I thought was a good stereo 130wpc receiver was just not there for me. To edgy. 42vdc per rail can yeild a fairly decent tube/integrated:D

the problem will be finding tubes that can work on only 42 volts of plate voltage.:D

I have been finding that out. I did however find a guy who had a schematic of a tube line driver for 85vdc, and I can sum that transformer for (got lucky) 85vdc:) I was going to separate the 2 secondaries on the tranny for 42 each, but will be able to rectify the 2 hot secondaries, and use the center tap as a ground.
