I just ordered a pair of rti8 from fry's. It should be here by friday. I am looking for a good subwoofer around $300. I have done a lot of research lately and most recommend the eD brand in that price range. I also heard POLK sub is not that great. Is there any other brand that i can just buy at Fry's or bestbuy in that price range?

Go to SVS and buy a PB-10. This is about 100 bucks more than you are talking about and will blow away any 700 POS you find at Frys or Bestbuy if you ask me. Sometimes they have b-stock for around $350 but they get picked up fast. Do yourself a favor and buy a real subwoofer at SVS.

Polk subs are good. Some people just want something different. You could also make your own sub, and for $300 have quiet the product.

eD is definitely the best bang for the buck."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

You're gonna have a hard time making your own sub for $ 300 considering the amp alone. The box and sub themselves are the easy parts.

I would definately go with a sub from ed/hsu/svs brands.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

amazon has the jbl sub12 for 200 shipped. it is front firing 12" 500ish watts. you can listen to them at bestbuy, although at bb its 379. A friend of mine just picked one up to go with his polk monitors and it sounds great.

Should consider the BIC H100, I have that with my 8's and it does an excellent job. Can pick it up at Overstock.com ($277.00 + 2.95 shipping), or check ebay, a store was taking offers at $200 then I believe another 30 or so to ship.

As an FYI, here's a little review on the JBL Venue Sub12.
I paid $199.00, free shipping, no tax. You get what you pay for and I got exactly what I wanted, a low cost bass box for an equally cheep bedrrom 2-channel system. While the bass output level is pretty good from the 250/500 watt 12" box, its vented, and has a distictly "boomy" sound. Although I listen to music only on it, it is much better off as a lower-end HT sub. I obviously wouldn't recommend this sub as a serious sub. But overall I am very happy with it.Do you hear that buzzing noise? -
the new polk subs are allegedly leaps and bounds over the older flock. Mark/Doro put one through the wringer lately if i'm not mistaken. Other usual suspects (for musical accuracy) are hsu and velodyne. Heard some good reviews on the entry level SVS as well. Welcome to Club Polk (what's left of it).

I also have the RTi8's and I went with (2) 12" Dayton's from Parts Express. I got em for $300. Unbeliveable sound!
