Question about SDA 2's?

Hi, I recently added a pair of SDA 2's to my collection. I saw them on eBay, they were mint and very close to my home. So I now have a pair of SDA CRS's, a pair of SDA 1's and, the SDA 2's.

Interestingly, the SDA 1's are just as loud and seemingly as efficient as the SDA CRS's. But for some reason, the SDA 2's apparently need a bit more power to be as loud as the other two. Not that I run them loud - I can't as I live in an apartment but I still notice a difference. I was wondering if anyone has ever compared the SDA 2's to any other SDA model and found the same thing, that the 2's need a bit more power.

My guess is that the the SDA 2's are simply a bigger version of the SDA CRS's and simply need a bit more power to fill the larger cabinet.

I have noticed my SDA 2As are slightly less efficient than my 10Bs.

my SDA 2B's need mo power too... it's crazy, but they do to make them play louder.

Well, at least I now don't feel as if my SDA 2's are faulty. They're great speakers and all I need now is a receiver with three outputs, so I can switch between the three pair whenever I want. I may move the 2's into the bedroom and keep the other two pair in the living room. I'll need a second receiver though for this.

I spoke with a tech at Polk and he confirmed this as well, that the 2’s need more power to be driven. Apparently, the SDA 2’s started out with two or three drivers, the one stereo speaker and, I believe, two tweeters. The latest model of the SDA 2 line, which is what I have, evolved to only one driver, one stereo speaker and one tweeter, while retaining the same cross-over network. At this point in time, I still feel that my SDA 1C’s sound better and with less volume. Maybe this should be obvious as there is simply more information coming out of twice as many speakers. And I’m still wondering if my CRS’s even sound better at less volume. However, I’ve only had the SDA 2’s for about a week now and I really feel I should give them a chance. At any rate, I’m in no rush to get rid of them. They are in near-mint condition with the original cable.

I was going to mention what you said in your last post.

I have original SDA2's and had a pair od SDA2 B's that I had borrowed form a friend to compare recently. The 2B's definately needed more power to drive. My original SDA2's need more now because I disconnected the dimensional tweeter. I raises the Ohm rating for the speaker at least and I am sure other factors weigh in also.

CRS's sound real good but I don't know if they sound better. Maybe a bit more efficient at lower volumes due to the size of the cabinet.

Get a good speaker selector for this. Adcom and Niles makes pretty good stuff. You can even get them with adjustable volume control...you'll probably need it...especially for the SDA 2's.

    Good luck.
