I have 2 Samsung blu-ray players the 1200 & 1400,they sent me firmware updates on both for they would play certain movies, well I did the 1200 & it would play any disk.Sent the unit for repair, now it plays some of the blu-ray but wont play Sunshine & 3-10 to yuma.Well I used the update disk for the 1400 & had to send it for repair!!! Talk about **** luck, what are consumers suppose to do? I cant take the movies back they will only let you exchange them which I did its not the movies its the players.

Ive heard others say they had problems with the Samsung players. I suggest you have them repaired and sell them. Once sold buy the new Panasonic BD30 and be happy. Ive had zero problems with my Sony S1. Blu lives on..............with a hi five to HD DVD.

No the new Panny doesnt do HD DVD. The new model Samsung(UP5000) will though.

Thanks, both the Samsungs plays sd dvds A+.but the 1200 has been repaired & still wont play certain blu-ray movies. The repair guy said he replaced the video part of the player.I cant sell the player like it is it would just cause trouble for the other guy that bought it!

I used the firmware update (twice ver 3.2 and 3.7) on my Sony BPD-S300 and it worked just fine. Just lucky - I guess.

Yeah, Samsung has developed a reputation of being VERY slow to correct playback problems with firmware updates. There are 1000s of posts at AVSforum complaining about the 1200. Its a shame because its one of the only Bluray players that has the Reon processor for upconverting standard DVDs.

Sony and Panasonic seem to be a little quicker to fix problems, but from what I understand, even the Panasonic is having some troubles with Sunshine.

Its really kinda sad that Bluray 'won out' because HD-DVD was a much more polished product. Bluray should have finalized their minimum hardware from the beginning instead of phasing in these profiles.

I bought the BD30 last week because it was a relatively good deal, and I wanted to get my foot in the Blu door. However, I'm not even trying to kid myself into thinking that it won't have occasional problems and might need to be upgraded in a year or two. That is the price of early adoption.

Thankfully, some video guru's on here steered me away from the Samsung. After what I've seen on the AVS forums, those players have some issues. I grabbed the Panasonic BD30.

Really? I don't like the fan noise, but it is quieter than my projector.

And it works perfectly with my Harmony Universal Remote. Cost me $10 to get it to work.
