What do I set the Crossover point to?

Heyya guys,

I'm new here and I'm pretty new to AV systems, but I did my homework and I ended up picking up a pretty descent Yamaha AV receiver, some Polk Audio Monitor series Speakers (Monitor 50 towers, Monitor 30 Rears, CS1 Center) and a Sinclair Audio SW10.3 250 Powered Sub.

Now, i'm trying to figure out what to set my Crossover point at. here's a setting for the Crossover point on the yamaha Receiver so i plan on using that. I have it set at 80Hz right now...

Any help would be appreciated.

cheers!

80Hz should be about right. The -3dB limit on the Monitor 50 is 57Hz, so you don't want anything below 70 as a crossover in theory IIRC. For the Monitor 30, that limit is at 63Hz, so again, 80 seems about right. More or less the same for the CS1 (-3dB limit is 65Hz).

You can play around with it a little to see what you prefer, but I think you are probably not far off where you need to be.
    Alea jacta est!

Dont be afraid to experiment, I run mine @60hz. My 12s and subs seem to blend better @60hz. So try a few different settings.

I agree. Sometimes what should be the best solution depends on the listening area so just play around and see what works best for you. But 80Hz would be a good starting point.

The 50's should be crossed over @ 68.25hz. The 30's should be @ 84.78hz. The cs1 should be @ 78.24hz. Your sub should be @ 89.37 hz. Hope this helps....
