LFE setup

If I don't have a sub, should I turn the LFE off? My manual seems to say that if LFE is on, it will be directed to the Large speakers. All of my speakers are pretty capable of handling bass and I have them all set to Large.
Let me ask this another way. If LFE is off, am I losing all low bass effects even if my speakers are set to Large?
Thanks.
Mike

set your front speakers to large, LFE turned off.. all bass will be directed to your fronts.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

"LFE" does not equal "subwoofer", though sometimes it is mistaken for that. It's rare that a receiver just lets you turn LFE off. The normal behavior is for LFE to be sent to the mains if they are set to large and you don't have a sub.
What brand/model receiver are we talking about?Equipment list:
Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
Epson 8500UB 1080p projector

This is a B&K Ref 20 pre/pro. I have fronts set to large and sub turned to none. The LFE can still be set to off, or normal, or some dB ratings. The manual reads like if I keep the LFE at normal, it will send MORE of the bass, the effects, to the fronts. However, I was comparing with the LFE off and on, and I wasn't hearing any difference--though there wasn't a lot action in the clip I sampled. It seems that if you once set the sub to none, then all bass should go to the fronts and the LFE should just go to off. So, I don't quite understand, and the manual is unclear, as to whether additional bass is sent to the fronts if the LFE is set to on. Thanks a lot.

I have the 307 and here is how I understand it.You set the speakers you want to large and the sub to none, all lfe will be directed to the speaks you have set to large. If you have none set to large, then all lfe will be lost.
Nice pre/pro you have there.Totally happy with mine.HT SYSTEM-

Also keep in mind, even with the speaks set to large and the sub to none, your front speaks must be able to handle some deep bass to notice anything. That is how I have mine set up now,but then again, they can handle it.Don't try and push some lfe out of an RTI4 lets say, you'll just damage the speaker.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks. I run Monitor 10Bs in front. They might be old, but they handle bass very well. And they still have very good detail with the new pre/pro and parasound amp.
