I finally decided to go for the 1.6QR and listen to it first if I really need a sub. A suggestion that I got from DKG99 and hopefully I would not end up buying one. This will be my first Maggies so any suggestions about this planar will be really appreciated before I go down to the dealer because I cant decide which finish should I go for.

I'm running mine without a sub. It's a matter of taste, proper amplification, listening habits and choice of music. I use mine mostly for jazz and classical and anything on vinyl sounds terrific on them.

I think you got some pretty good tips over on AA, if that was you posting about buying the 1.6's. I would give them about 300 hrs before deciding if you need a sub or not. The Maggies do take some break-in! Don't make any judgements until they have time to smooth out! Depending on room, the music you listen to, etc. you may feel a sub is a must, a nice to have, or not necessary. For me it was a nice to have. Good luck and enjoy!

I agree, hold off on the subwoofer. I think the Cherry/Black is the best looking but the Cherry/White isn't as bad as I thought, after I saw them in person.

If you want to think subwoofer, go with something small like the REL T series or perhaps the Polk Micro-Pro. You don't need a monster subwoofer to strengthen the low end.

    They are addictive, have fun!

I have the charcoal/gray cloth with cherry side rails. I think the charcoal/gray hides dust better than the black. I agree with Mark, the white looks better in person than it did when I was looking at the website.

I think Mark also meant to say they were "addictive"! And that they are! I think a pair of 3.6R's driven by Parasound Halo JC-1's are in my future, emphasis on "future"!

Yea, I meant addictive ;) ....but taken further out of context, planar loudspeakers may just be the additive his ears need.

I was thinking of getting a MMG but I change my mind since it does not go really down compare with the 1.6. If I were to get a 1.6 then I will be saving money by not getting a sub right away. I dont know if Im right please correct me if Im wrong. Have you guys have a picture of a cherry and white 1.6. I think I will go for it. What do you think
