I just picked up an AE Symphonies preamp. It currently is set up in the 2
channel with the pc/MonicaII and AR vt60 amp and Paradigm studio 60's.
It replaced a Parasound p/sp1000. So far, It sounds pretty good.
It's a bit more forward than the Parasound, but with good detail
and some interesting tube benifits. It adds depth to many stringed
instruments. So far, I've gone through two Allison Krause albums.
Next up, some rock.
This preamp has done the circuit of Polkie owners. I don't believe it has had any
of the cap mods done yet.

Forget tubes at this point, as it's been around. It's time for MODS.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

It's a great preamp. I'd love to hear your impressions of mods.

At the moment, I've got it back out of the system. The output of the MonicaII
DAC, even with gain stage, is lower than normal. The gain on this pre is also a bit low.
I'm going to mod it, try it with another DAC with better output.

The recording out (to the headphone amp) is a Y connection off of
the source selection switch. Interesting that this "passive" connection
changes the sound, even with the pre turned off. I need to analyze the
input of this amp a bit to find out why this happens. It would seem the
other leg of the Y that goes through the Alps volume and to the preamp
section has an effect. I may also change the Alps out for a stepped
ladder, since many feel the Alps volume controls cause some bass loss.
The joy of point to point wiring is this is moddable even by us old
    half blind guys.
