Question about polkaudio speakers

HI

I am new to this forum. I currently have the YAMAHA HT5840 REceiver (85w per channel) and Sony floorstanding speakers. I would like to upgrade to the Polk Monitor 50 or the RTI8 model speakers. Is it okay to use my current receiver or do i have to upgrade to a new receiver? I really dont want to buy another receiver since i just bought this one for less than a year. Thanks

    I think that you will be fine, just don't get carried away with the volume control and overdrive it to the point where you cause the amp to clip and causes you to smoke the tweeters. See how you like it and then go from there if the bug bites you to upgrade, most of all,don't get too over analytical ,and just enjoy your system,,have fun,enjoy and welcome to Club Polk.:)

    I am afraid that the rti8's are too strong for the receiver. Should i downgrade it to a pair of RTI6's instead? My receiver only has 85w per channel. Thanks

    Look more at the efficiency of the speakers vs the max power. A speaker rated at 90db watt will actually put out more sound than a smaller speaker that puts out 88db per watt.

    Also try to go RTI if budget allows. You will save in the long run.

    Welcome to CP! You will be fine with the RTI 8's.
