RTI10's and Onkyo tx-sr605
Hey guys,
I wanted to know if anyone here has the RTi10's and the onkyo 605. I recently got the the 605 as a gift and purchased the RTi after auditioning them at Sound Advice.
I am just wondering if the receiver is adequate enough to power those speakers- according to polk tech, the 7" woofers draw alot of power.
Let me know as I am thinking of either upgrading to a 705 or 805- would the 705 be enough?
Thanks!

Welcome to Club Polk. The answer is not a bigger receiver, but an amplifier.

Thanks Ben,
But the problem is the 605 doesnt have any pre-outs. Thus cant attach an external amp to it. -
OK. Can you upgrade to an HK with pre outs? Ebay store Harmon Direct has good AVRs with PreOuts for around $300. Take the extra money, and get a used amp. Don't get hung on watts. A receiver compared to an amp is like comparing a car audio head unit to a separate amp.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Oooh. Didnt think of that option. Which HK receiver and what amp? sorry but im a newbie and med school takes all my time. HDMI in the receiver?
-
I really don't care too much about HDMI in the receiver. Many others will probably chime in on this as bad advice, but my logic suggest going directly to the TV with the HDMI. If HDMI is needed others that know more than I do in that department will help. I was using an HK AVR-235 as a pre for a while. It is "only" 50 watts per channel, but is fine for center, and surround duties for most users. With the AVR doing C/SR/SL duties with the speakers set to small, and an amp running fronts set to large worked excellent. My main amp was 250 watts per channel. I did have to turn the fronts down 3-4db for movies, but when listening to music in 2 channel the amp really lets those larger speakers shine.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Hmm. Was looking for HDMI in the receiver. But love HK receivers.
Ben, you're in FT. lauderdale? I actually live in Miramar. Got my RTI's from sound advice in aventura.
So does anyone have a setup with RTi10's and the onkyo 605's- just want to know if its common. My system sounds "harsh" but havent tuned it completely. -

Take your time, and get a good deal. Don't jump on the first deal you see. It looks like $350 will get you into something good.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Look for HK AVR-247, and up. They have HDMI, and pre outs. If you take your time, and make some offers you should hit it around $300-350.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. the receiver is setup according to factory instructions- no amp, and cant connect to one since there are no pre-outs. Here are the other things you asked for:
Room size: 14'X22'X20
Listening position= 9ft
Distance btw speakers= 9ft
Distance from rear wall= 1.5ft
Distance from side wall= 2ft
Other gear is:
42" Sony Wega rear projection 720p
Sony DVD player with HDMI
Comcast DVR
XBOX 360

I used to push an all-R series with my Onkyo 605 but that combination proved to be too bright at louder volumes so when I upgraded to an all-RTi set up I picked up a Harman Kardon AVR 247 and it proved to be a much better match. The amp section of the HK is actually quite robust, so even though it's rated at 50 wpc the actual SPL output is comparable than the Onkyo and I actually prefer the HK sound better. Not only that, it's also a lot more customizable than the Onkyo and has flexible bass management settings for each channel, which you'll find handy with the RTi10
I'm in the process of getting a multichannel amp to get that extra kick in clarity and detail based on everybody's recommendation here -
You could always use the Zone 2 preamp output from the TX-SR605 to run to a separate amplifier. Just a thought...Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Or is it........................Spanky?.................................Sinner.

Would that work to use another amp? Usiong the Zone 2 preamp output??? Because I have the onk 605 also. I was thinking about selling it and getting something different because of all the negative reviews about not having preouts. But im only running rti6's for main speakers and a csi3 for center.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

Did anyone already answer the latest question from "bopicasso" regarding the onk605/rti6/csi3? May be I missed it. I have the Onk605/csi3/velodyne sub/rti8 (just ordered this) .. and I am fearing that I pulled the trigger to early on the RTi8s because the receiver I got. Anyone? Thanks.
