this is my first pair of polks the monitor 10 series , i picked up fom the thrift store for $25.00 for the pair :D...cabinets look nice could do with a clean up...tested them out on my vintage sansui receiver and am very impressed with them...

only then did i realise although they sound very nice one of the mid drivers is not working ( no movement ) , tested on the other driver connections and clealry not a cap issue as it still didnt work..so were would i get one of those ?

my other question .. i was hoping to use these with a center channel polk i have had for sometime , for getting a good timbre match across the fronts for my surround sound set up ...are these series 10's useable in a surround set up ...are there any downfalls to having a passive woofer ? or what are the benefits of a passive woofer ?

these polks are my first buy since rather stupidly selling my mcintosh ml-2c's which i had spent many an hour re capping , foaming, and refurbishing the cabinets ...so am going to be using my new polks in either home theater or for just music... eitherway i am very glad i bought them !!

thanks in advance

Congrats. The M10s are nice speakers. Call polk CS tomorrow and tell them you need a replacement driver for your speakers. The phone # is on the "contact us" page on this site. But make sure it's really dead before you do this. I dunno how hard it is to pull one of the midrange drivers out of the cab but probably not too hard. Try connecting it directly to your speaker wires from the amp/receiver to make sure it's dead.

On that replacement driver, I think you get a discount and 2 day free shipping if you tell them you're a Club Polk member (I know this is true for new tweeters).

I can't tell you anything about timbre matching; some people have said they play well in a surround setup but it's not a real common application for them.

So are your new speakers 10As, 10Bs, or series 2?

It's a Monitor 10, the version doesn't really matter. Remove the suspected bad, mid-bass driver and see what it says on the magnet.

This guy's been an AK member for a year or two with this name, the two F1s seem to be able to peacfully coexist over there.

You're going to have a long road replacing those McIntosh ML-2Cs. I had good luck with RTA-11ts previously, so I kept with the Polk family when I replaced my ML-2Cs. Even their largest is only about a lateral move from the big Macs.

And mention you are a club Polk member to get the discount. Make sure you tell Ken at CS you are not Jesse. They may charge you double (grumpy old man tax):p

Snap a pic of the tweeter on the front and post it in this thread. That will be enough for many to tell you what version you have of the monitor 10 (or close anyway).

You will love the monitor 10's. I have been thinking of using mine as rear speakers with SDA's as fronts. (if I can find SDA's with the SL2500 tweeter my monitor 10's use). Not sure about a center channel, but while you have customer service on the phone about your replacement woofer, ask them what center (classic speaker or Current line) they recommend for voice matching to your 10's.

Welcome to Club Polk - we are more than big enough for a pair of F1nut's. If we hear something nice, we will just assume they are talking about you.... :D
    Mains.............Polk LSi15 (Cherry)
    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)
Surrounds.......Polk LSi7 (Gloss Black - wood sides removed and crossovers upgraded)
    Subwoofers.....SVS 25-31 CS+ and PC+ (both 20hz tune)
    Pre\Pro...........NAD T163 (Modded with LM4562 opamps)
    Amplifier.........Cinepro 3k6 (6-channel, 500wpc@4ohms)
