Should children witness childbirth?

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to
the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked
Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her
mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby.
Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked.
Mommy pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor
was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and
spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked
the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she
had just witnessed.

Kathleen quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in there
in the first place......smack him again!"

I've heard that before. In that situation he (the paramedic) didn't have much of a choice, but I would generally say no, especially that young. But just my opinion. Depending on the emotional stability and maturity of the child, some would probably be fine. Children can often surprise us adults with how emotionally tough or perceptive they are.

I don't need light to deliver babies. They either come head first (good)or present limb or butt first (very bad).

you'd be surprised at how many men faint when they're witnessing birth.
I get a kick out of that.

I witnessed it...once was enough for me.

Funny thing was the doctor that delivered my daughter, had delivered me too. :D That may not be very special in some of the tiny eastern towns some of you folks live in, but out here on the west coast big city life that is really rare. :p

If it was a loved one giving child birth, I might have a hard time keeping my composure. Otherwise, it doesn't bother me one bit.

Awesome experience and no kids shouldn't be there, joke or not.Which brings me to the video of childbirth, just totally WRONG. Not something I would want to see, especially my mother.

Yeah , I can't see sharing time with friends and them pulling out one of THOSE video tapes. Possibly if they were to fast forward the tape and we watch the video in REVERSE :)

Frank, I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that you're going to have to
    say that again.

I think some folks just aren't "getting it".

    Good joke, though. :)
