Is anybody familiar with any if these Mcintosh models? I am about to drive to Indianapolis to pick up monitor 7's and this guy has a lot of Mcintosh gear I might be able to get for cheap. I figured I would post the models here while I research the internet.
mac 1700, 1500, mc2105, mc75's, mc275s

I've been looking for a 275 locally for a reasonable price.
The Mac 1700 and 1500 are receivers and may be tubed. The 2105 is a nice 2 ch. solid state amp. MC75's and 275's are tube amps.

How much is he asking for everything?"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
From my experience, there is really no bad McIntosh gear, especially at a cheap price. People might chime in with more experience on particulay models.

Grab the 275 and 75's if you can, they're the most desirable of the bunch. If you have a pre-amp, the 2105 would make a nice amp. I'm not familiar with the receivers, but I'm sure either one would power your Monitor 7's with ease."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

So far the only I want is the 2105. I found it online and it sure is sexy.:D Not to mention it is 105wpc of I think tube power.
But from what I can tell all of these models are selling for mad money. Nothing I could afford.
Face he says he has pairs of the models you were looking for. If you want maybe I can get some pics of the specific models and if you want them maybe I can pick them up for you.
He had to step out for an hour and when he gets back I should be able to get prices for everything. I am pretty sure with as much gear he has he knows what he has got and won't be willing to let anything go cheap. But I will see. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the 2105. I think it would make a great 2 channel amp for the vintage rig I am going to build. -
The 2105 is a high current solid state amp and also under rated, probably around 125wpc in reality.
If he's aware of what everything is worth, it probably wouldn't be worth it for me due to shipping. Find out what he wants for the 275 anyway though.
I hope the 2105 works out for you. Just a word of warning, they're HEAVY. Probably 65-75lbs."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
I doubt you'll get a 275 for "cheap" ... but if he has one for cheap and you don't want it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands ...

I can't say I've ever loved the look of McIntosh gear, but it looks good and is respectable. There is a lot of gear IMO that looks "cooler", but the look is solid.
-
See if he has some MC2250 tubers around.
-
MC2250 isn't tubed, it's SS, and horrible looking IMO. The MC250 looks tubed, but isn't either. I have one(MC250) that's 9/10. The chrome still has a mirror finish from the early/mid 70's.
Here's a great link that covers most of what McIntosh produced.

Well after futher research it is not as sexy as I thought. When I initialy seen a picture of it all it was showing was the cool blue analog meters and some of the black face plate. After seeingthe rest of it I wasn't so thrilled. But it didn't look horrible. But all of this meens nothing to me. I just want great sound. Or just to hear some Mcintosh stuff for that matter. The guy still hasn't contacted with the prices yet. I think I will send him one more email regarding prices. -
The 2105 isn't one of the most handsome Mac's, but they're well regarded and fairly popular.
You're right, they do look better at night."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -

Nick,
Sorry, I got back and I've spent the evening with my 7 year old son. Single full time dad at 57. LOL!!!
I was going to put them on A-gon. $325 for the 1500, $500 for the 1700 with box, manuals, original tubes testing excellent, $750 for the 2105, all original & near mint except for 3 tiny bubbles on the top left of the glass face. No scratches or flaws anywhere. Hardly even dusty. 75's I just rebuilt completely with V-oil caps and fresh NOS tubes $4200, 275 #one is an early model in excellent shape also a Terry DeWick rebuild $1900, and #2 is less than 2 years old perfect for $2700. I've got the original invoice sold for $3400. Used maybe 20 hours or less.
I should have pics on all these and I'll send them if I still have them. I've been pricing them for a week now. I'm trying to downsize the apartment and move back to the house. -
I can get get a MC275 NIB for 2900, oh well.
Try to low ball him on the 2105, maybe he'll take your offer since you're local."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -

LOL... I did. I offered him $500.00 cash for it. He respectivly turned down my offer and said it would probably bring $1000-$1500 on a-gon. Oh well. I kind of new what was going to happen and it did. But those prices on the 275's and 75's seemed way out there to me...... But I don't know knothing about nothing.:D It's all part of my audio journey.:) -
There's no way that will bring over $1,000 on a-gon. As for the 275 prices, they are only a little high, they hold their value well.
Just go to www.audiogon.com and search McIntosh."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
After I told him thats cool. He told me I would be better off buying this.
AMC CVT-2030
Or that he had a friend in idaho that built tube amps and he could get me one for $400.00 plus shipping.
He did seem to give me what I thouhgt to be good advice. I told him the last amp I had was a b&k st-140 and said to pair it with a good tube pre/amp and I would be amazed by the sound. I never even thouhgt of getting a tube pre while I had the amp. Oh well..
Can't wait to get my polks.:D
