Hello, Would someone be so kind as to help me out, I am looking at purchacing a new sub. I was looking at the Polk line however a local audio shop is advising me to consider a Velodyne with a price point of 699. Would you be able to offer advice or any suggestions.

For primarily HT or music? How big is the room?

The room is an odd shape, newer homes, crazier designs, however the best mesurment would be approximatly 22' by 12' and this is for Home Theatre only. Thank you

Another vote for SVS. Unless of coarse you want to build one.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

Thank you all for your input. I’m just not sure what I should choose, it has been suggested to me now to consider the SVS, HSU and also the Velodyne. I want to spend around 600 and sometimes 600 can go allot further on ebay than a retail store.

My HT room is approximately 22' by 12' and this is for Home Theatre only. I am a complete idiot at this point when it comes to understanding all the techy/specifications on all electronic devices. Based on the size of my HT room what size of Sub should it be and what based on the suggestions given would be the best option for me?

Please forgive my stupidity and I thank all those in advance for their time and professional opinions.

I have been told by many local retail audio dealers to stay away from HT cylinder subs. Is this a valid point?

I'm not sure however I have been told that the Polk line of subs is probably not a wise choice as their R and D is not stricly focused on that specific line of speaker. If anyone can advise me otherwise I would be very intrested in listening as it would be nice to keep everything as a match. I am looking for Bass I can feel though not just hear.

The only cylinder subs that I'm aware of in current production are SVS and DIY. They are killer, so I'd assume your shop is just trying to steer you away from the competition. Structurally the cylinders are less resonant than boxes. Properly designed cylinders are awesome subs...just fugly.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

Cylinder subs must have some pros and cons of there own aswell. I have been in many and i mean many HT rooms from both Friends and family homes to high grait audio retail and I have yet to see a cylinder sub. This is odd! By "Fugly" you mean UGLY?

I just setup my SVS 25-31 last night. It blew me away. We popped in a couple movies and it shook the whole house! You didnt even know where the bass was coming from and it blended with the rest of the speakers perfect!
Im so happy with my purchase! 600 well spent!!!!! Plus it looks really cool! I would recommend SVS all day long. Along with every other SVS owner that convinced me to make this wise purchase!

Where exactly did you hear that incorrect and false statement?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
