Does anyone own the Polk DSW 500? How is it compared to other subwoofers for listening to music?

The new DSW series is much better than the previous attempts by Polk Audio. I believe they finally have a serious contender to brands like Velodyne for example. I wouldn't put them up against SVS but they've come a long way.

The new line is pretty wide ranging in regards to features as well. I have a DSW2000 Micro-Pro in house for testing and review.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

For music, I'd put them up against pretty much anything out there, especially at the pricepoint. I've had a DSW PRO 600 on demo, and currently have a DSW PRO 400 in the HT rig, and they are nothing short of amazing in performance. They play low, fast, and articulate - and the built in placement optimizers really work.

    Cheers,
    Russ

I know the bugle is blowing but think about it.....this new line is pretty exciting for folks like us.

12v triggers, AutoPro(DSP Room Correction), PRO(Polk Room Optimizer), adjustable feet with integral spikes and passive radiators? These are light years beyond the past decade, AND they still have bargain level subwoofers. Cool :)

I wouldn't give the BIC the time of day, I've had the STF-1 and the DSW 400 smokes it in every sense.

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Russ,

Tell me more about the DSW 600. How does it compare to the 400?
How does it sound overall? What gain are you running it at? Placement?
How deep does it dig in a room?

    Thanks.

HSU makes some great subwoofers but there's nothing special about the STF-1.

I just purchased a Polk DSW 600 about a week ago and I am loving the bass/response that it has. Terminator 3 in Blue-ray is nasty and I am one happy camper.

My opinion probably would not count b/c this is the only sub I've ever owned =(
Speakers- Ascend Acoustics Towers w/ Raal, LSiM 706c, FXiA6 (surround), 4 klipsch cdt-5800-c (Dolby Atmos), SVS PB12. HT 5.1.4.

    Yamaha RX-A3050, Parasound HCA 2205.

My point is, has anyone compared the DSW series to the BIC H-100 and HSU/SVS/eD subs yet?

The BIC H-100 isnt in the same class. And if you compare the DSW series to a equal sub from HSU/SVS/ED I would definately go with a sub from HSU/SVS/ED.
Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables.

some of the guys here (Russ and Doro in particular) have played with a myriad of equipment in this hobby. If they are impressed with this sub, thats something very worthy of note.

While I have never heard the stf1 or the dsw, if Russ says the DSW 400 is better, take it to the bank.

    I can get the DSW400 (8") for 199$ and the DSW500 (10") for 299$...that better than HSU VTF/STF?

    Have to decide today...

I will go for the DSW 500. I have a pair of the LC265i but they lack the bass response. I hope the DSW 500 makes the difference in the sound.

    Isn't Frys an online retailer?

Can anyone recommend where to buy the DSW 500 at the best price?

Fry's is online as well as brick-and-mortar.

Also, I actually found that Amazon.com and Tigerdirect.com can beat Fry's for price often.

Fry's is an authorized dealer, and many are not. I'm all for a great deal, just be careful.
