RTi 8's vs. Rm40T
I'm assuming the RTi8's are the better speaker (because the RTi line is the better line) but the Rm40T's MSRP is $200 more (per pair) then the RTi line. So if anyone can tell me which is the better speaker (not better value, I don't care about the price difference) I would really appreciate it.

Actually if you watch sale prices you can get the Rti8's for around $300. I know nothing of the RM line.

Yeah I saw that, thanks. However, the price between these two sets doesn't really concern me. I just want to know which one sounds better. Thanks for the input though.
BTW, How do you like your Adcom amp? I am looking at getting a similar setup to what you have and have been looking at different amp options. -
The Adcom is great. I wanted an amp with good power that could drive all 5 speakers and it does it wonderfully. It handles everything I throw at it.
IMHO the price does matter and you can't go wrong with 8's at that price, excellent speaker. -

Another vote for the RTi8. Better overall, but the RM40T is no slouch - especially in a video rig with a good subwoofer.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

RuSsMaN, am I to assume you have owned both? Is there a reason they (Polk) list the 40T's with a higher MSRP if the 8's are the better speaker. Everything I've seen and read leads me to believe the 8's are better but the MSRP doesn't make sense to me. BTW, I have heard the Rm40T's but not the RTi8's. -
The cost involved in those two loudspeakers is simply different. The RM series has an aluminum enclosure, and the molding process for that speaker costs more than a MDF based box design. That's just a couple generic comments but don't get wrapped up in price. Both loudspeakers are intended for different market blocks as well.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? That makes sense thanks. It never even occurred to me that they just cost more to produce. I just assumed the price was based on the sound. I guess I'll go with the RTi8's then.

Ed Zachry, the RM series is marketed toward the 'flat screen' custom install group, with a big focus being on asthetics (for Joe6pack with some $ to spend).

One more question, I am am also looking into upgrading my receiver to a Yamaha RX-V1800. Does anyone know how the RTi8's sound with Yamaha? Is it warm enough sounding to balance out "bright" speakers?
-
The RTi aren't bright, the Yamaha is (imho).
Onkyo, then Denon, then HK are the best bet in receivers for an RTi home theater - at least for the brick and mortar choices.
I currently run a Polk RM series with an entry level Onkyo and have no thoughts of upgrading.
Cheers,
Russ
