Need technical advise

I have a Denon 3805, RT800 L & R, CS400, M&K MX100 sub, FX500 rears. I want to go to 7.1 and add side speakers.
My question is, If I bought FXi30's, would it be much of a benifit (audio wise) to put the FX500's on the sides and place the FXi30's in the back ? or is it going to sound about the same if I leave the big speakers in the rear ? The distance between sides and rear's is about 6ft.
