Hi, first of I am not much into gameing. But my wife is wanting a Wii, I'm wanting to make some upgrades to my HT so I figure give a little get, a little. But I am also thinking I can benafit as well. So now for my questions and since she doesn't read these posts my plan:D This will be broken into a couple posts to try and keep it short. Does anyone think that Nintendo might come out with a Blu-ray version? I read somewhere that a HD version (firmware??) may be in the works, but after the WB anouncement I have to think that is being re-evaluated. Also I have to think BR being Sony and PS3 getting slammed by the Wii I would think a BR version of Wii would be out of the mix as well. Anyone hear any rummers one way or the other? I just picked up a Tosh A2 from a friend for his cost from the WM $98 deal, even though I am not sure the WB deal is the slam dunk for Blu-ray that others do the A2 will probably just end up being an upconvert player. Most of you are probably seeing through my plan already:) More to follow

I don't see the wii ever coming out with a br add on. Graphics was obviously never nintendo's main objective, and I don't see them changing course now. The wii only outputs at 480p anyway...

Go grab a 80gb ps3 and be done with it. HDM player and a nice gaming system :)

The Wii doesn't play DVDs or even CDs.... it will never be a media player of any sort. They have said they will make their games HD next generation and only if the majority of households have HD displays.

So, convince your wife that the PS3 is the way to go!!!

    Part 2
Has anyone heard anything about PS3 coming out with some type of controller similar to the Wii? Thats the thing my wife likes most. My sister told me she got hers for $250 before Xmas, but what I am seeing by the time you get a Wii and some controller accesories the price will be pretty close to PS3, even though I think both will be dropping soon I think the difference between the 2 will stay pretty close.
Now for some tech questions. I will be running what ever on a 720P Panny PX77U Plasma. I think the Wii is only a 480P output, does that make much of a difference on games? Could that be the reason for the talk of an HD Wii to combat that 480P drawback? What does the Wii offer on the audio side, 5.1 ?

Have either of you heard anything about a different controller on the PS3? It looks like that is the only strong point on the Wii but they have strong sales.

Not yet, but I guess it is possible. the ps3 does have the new "6 axis controller" that recognizes movements of the controller (not that well in sports games for example, but it works), so I guess it could happen.

I haven't read any rumors about them going more in that direction, so I wouldn't bank on it when buying a ps3.

The strong point of the Wii is that its super simple and super fun. Word on the street is that the sixaxis for the PS3 sucks. I've not tried it myself. I don't see the Wii ever doing a HD format. Maybe Nintendo's next console will, in like 6 years.

You haven't seen good graphics till you see a PS3 game on a 1080 HDTV. Amazing is the only word that comes to mind. The PS3 has HDMI outputs too, and makes a pretty decient blu-ray player.

The Six-Axis is very good when used properly... but it is a very different thing from the Wii. If someone wants a Wii the PS3 wont be a substitute.

    Good examples of Six-Axis:
flOw - most precise use of motion controls yet in a game I think.
Uncharted - subtle use to change arc of grenade is useful, not distracting.
Heavenly Sword- using a movement as part of a combo is actually really fun.

unfortunately there are many more bad examples...

As a BluRay player, is the PS3 fast? Does it navigate menus quickly and load movies fast? Thats my biggest gripe with my current BluRay player.

The PS3 is very quick with menus. Discs load up in about 10 seconds or so (well, by the time I get back to my couch they are loaded, so no complaints!) and menus pop up as soon as I hit the button for them. UltimateAVmag gave it their #1 disc player for 2007 award -- aside from the fact it only outputs HD audio over HDMI, and does not yet support DTS-MA (but will at some point via a patch), it is still an excellent player. I'm Just waiting for a nice HDMI 1.3 pre/pro.

Yea, I've got no complaints with my ps3 as a player either. Load times seem fast, and navigation is a breeze. I am missing the HD audio b/c I'm using an optical cable for audio, but it still sounds outstanding. My best console purchase in years...

Looks like you'll be buying a PS3 and a Wii. Wii is sick fun, nothing compares to it. Though its only 480p the graphics are very well done, and what can compare to playing Super Mario bros from the original NES console.

ratchet and clank on ps3 utilizes the sixaxis' usefulness. but by a very limited degree. also, motorstorm uses it to steer. but i find the analog joysticks more useful. it will never compare to the wii in that manner. but it doesn't need to.

truely, i don't think you'll be happy UNLESS you get BOTH a wii and ps3. big $$$, i know. but the only way you'll please your wifey and yourself. (unless you're good in the sack)

as far as ps3 for blu-ray, i love it to death. lpcm/lossless sounds pretty good. sony showed BDlive at CES and says profile 2.0 is coming to the ps3. probably not bitstreaming of the advanced codecs, but you get lpcm, so no issue.

    enjoy.

BIZILL thanks for the info on the PS3 audio. No matter how much I can please her in the sack she isn't going to let me drop some coin to move up to a pre-pro and amp unless I spend some $ on her as well. Woman are funny like that:confused: lol
