Pieces and Parts

I grew weary of hauling my iPod from the truck to the exercise room (boy, that whole sentence is an oxymoron!) Anyway, I have way too much gear laying around or stored and (today at least) too much time on my hands.

The pieces and parts:

Spare Gateway laptop w/wireless NIC
Dodd MLP preamp w/external PS (pulled out of storage)
Rebuilt Dynaco ST-70
Polk Audio SDA-2B Studio w/silk domes and upgraded xovers (my first Polks)
Assorted ICs, speaker cables, and PCs (pulled out of storage)
Dell 521 desktop system w/6000+ MP3s acting as wireless music server (my home office PC)

Put it all together and whadaya' got? An amazing sounding "spare" system (now with remote and access to far more MP3s than my old iPod can house) for $0 additional cash outlay.

I'm listening to Al Di Meola's "Kiss My Axe" as I type--one of my permanent reference albums--and it's spectacular. All in all a fun morning!

A couple of pics:

This pair of SDAs are keepers for me. The other two pair I've had were the "extras" (the SDA SRS are actually here in a closet, still waiting for the buyer to pick them up!)

Whenever I take some time to listen to these 2B Studio models they never fail to draw me in. Very engaging, tight and accurate. I just finished listening to Buddy Guy and Juniour Wells "Last Time Around" from the next room. It sounded like you could just walk in there, grab a stool, and jam with them.

Thanks. It's a beginning. That little nook is actually a small offset in the total room footprint. Perfect for the Total Gym and music gear.

Well, don't look at the lower shelves in that rack Al! :p There's a DVD player, 5.1 HK AVR500, and a 3 piece Nikko Alpha 250 separates system stuck in there....unused.

There's nothing like extra gear until you find that you have no bed to sleep in....
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I've done open PR surgery on these, held their round little copper coil laden innards in my hands, and extracted their abscessed, Mexican capacitors and sand coffin resistors. They're 2Bs.
