Audio Research SP16L Tube Pre-Amplifier - 9/10 - Black - *SOLD* to dkg999

Fresh from being in Matt Polk's hands, ready for your living room.

This is a real hi-fi killer at MSRP and if the Reference 3 didn't have me obsessed, it would stay here. I've had it coupled with my CTC BBQ and Usher/Triangle' loudspeakers with great results.

It's black and flawless. I'm the original owner and the unit has about 250 hours on it from the time the box opened. I just do way more headphone than open air(naked), smoking jacket w/ cigar style listening.

The remote control is indeed, full featured and handles all business needed when in the hand.

Specifications:

FREQUENCY RESPONSE:
Line: +0-1dB, 1Hz to 60kHz at rated output. -3dB points below 0.5Hz and above 100KHz.

DISTORTION: Less than .007% at 2V RMS Single Ended output.

GAIN:
Main output line - 11.5dB Single Ended Processor: 0dB.
Record output, line: 0dB. Phono: 43.5dB.

INPUT IMPEDANCE: 50K ohms line

INPUTS(5): DC, tuner, video, aux, processor, (Single Ended RCA connectors). Model SP16L has no phono input.

OUTPUT IMPEDANCE: 260 ohms Single Ended main; 20K ohms minimum load and 1000 pF maximum capacitance. Outputs (3): 2 main, 1 record (Single Ended RCA connectors).

OUTPUT POLARITY: Non inverting (Any input or output).

MAXIMUM INPUT: Line - 3.5 RMS Single Ended.

RATED OUTPUTS: 2V RMS Single Ended into 100K load. Maximum output 15V RMS at 1% THD at 1kHz.

PUSH BUTTONS: Volume up, volume down (70 steps, 20 LED indicators), Input, Processor, Mute, Power. All functions on IR remote control.

POWER SUPPLIES: Electronically regulated low and high voltage supplies. Automatic 30-sec. warm-up/brown-out mute. Line regulation better than .01%.

NOISE: Line - 15uV RMS IHF weighted at main output with volume low (96dB below 1V RMS output).

TUBE COMPLEMENT: (3)-12AX7EH dual triodes.

All connections have been treated with CAIG Pro-Gold and it will be packed to withstand an atomic blast.

Includes: Original everything.

I wish I could afford it.:(

Do you deal with AR often? When it comes time to start putting together a new 2 - channel rig. I will be looking for a used AR pre/amp and amp. The price you have on this one seems great. If I had the coin I would take it in a heart beat.

    Good luck on your sale

    Audio Research SP16L Tube Pre-Amplifier - 9/10 - Black - $1375

I've been running this for a couple months and it's been fun, but in usual Crazy Doro fashion....everything must go. Naturally, to make room for more stuff.

This is a real hi-fi killer at MSRP and if the Reference 3 didn't have me obsessed, it would stay here. I've had it coupled with my CTC BBQ and Usher/Triangle' loudspeakers with great results.

It's black and flawless. I'm the original owner and the unit has about 25 hours on it from the time the box opened. I can't honor the full factory warranty but if you have any issues within the next 6 months, I'll take care of you.

    Includes: Original everything.

Christ am I really thinking about buying another preamp from you. How does it sound? Other AR preamps have sounded slightly laid back to me. My guess is that is would pair well with a good SS amp.

It's better than the Anthem Pre-2L that previously occupied the rack...and that's a giant killer modified.

It's a great tube pre-amp and does everything it should. The stock tubes are fine and I never rolled tubes. I don't like to get into semantics in regards to this or that because my sonic opinion means nothing in the end.

The AR combo has been pretty stellar and I hope to get a CD3 in house before they go.

I owned one of these for almost a year; you guys should know by now that for me to keep a piece of gear for that long, is not common ;)

Great sounding preamp (not laid back at all....very detailed). Remote with all functions, and it has a HT bypass.

And you can't find a better seller. what's to think????

What's to think? The guy keeps putting crazy good gear on the forum that I don't have time to listen to the last pre I bought from him. Someone needs to give him riddlin so he slows down.

By the way, Doros customer service may only be matched by Polk.

3 12AX7's; sounds great with the stock EH. I tried in mine some Mullards and Telefunkens (got from some guy named Russ). I am ashamed to say that I don't remember now which, but one made it sound better, and one didn't. I think the Mullards were the "good" ones.

Full function remote, two outputs, and IIRC three inputs plus HT bypass. No phono.

    Mark, I'll bill you later.

OK, this is back up for sale....if the Rogue doesn't fit your color pallette. I'll include another set of tubes to compliment the stock but I have to dig thru the stash.

Yes, the second picture above is of a silver SP16L. I had two of them and decided on black.

Grado 125s. I got rid of my X-Can so I'm looking for a make over. I have never been big into cans but I got the Jones for some Sennheisers. I had some el cheapos Senns in college and they worked well with my Pyrex bong.

Seriously, I was thinking of some Senn 580's and maybe an amp DIY kit. I'm lurking with the HeadFi freaks but that place is a little scary and I'm not sure what to believe. Everyone seems to love the Cardas wires!!

I'm a Head-Fi member as well but most of my work is on the ground. It's really no different from any dynamic. I'm elsewhere and CP gets called crazy on more than one occasion.

What wouldn't work well with a bong? I recall a buddy putting vinyl graphics on his foot holder "Nachimiki". The spelling error aside....why add graphics to a tobacco smoking instrument at all? Are you sponsored by Tide....Viagra....or Nakamichi? It just seemed counterproductive but he loved it like an inflatable girlfriend.

I have a friend who hired a couple of young guys from West Virginny to help him install some drywall. I was helping out buy running some screws through the blue board into the studs. I noticed one of the guys had tattooed the word "refer" on his hand. I asked him what that word was (snicker snicker) and he says "you know Mary Jane". I said "you spelled it wrong", he said "well, I guess I was stoned, but I can't remember because I'm not good with numbers, or power tools". Then he shows me his other hand with some finger tips missing. I think he's now a senior executive with AIG.
