Upcoming duel- Gallos vs Martin Logans
Thinking of changing out main speakers (again...). Ever since I had a chance to listen to the Gallo Reference 3.1s at CES a couple of years ago I've had my eyes on them. I should have a pair of them in about a week or so and will run them head to head versus my current speakers (Martin Logan SL3s). Hoping to keep some of the diffuse sound of the Martin Logans but perhaps pick up a bit in other area. Should be an interesting match. I'll post my review once I get them in and set up....

I've always wondered about the 3.0 gallo vs. the 3.1. IF you have good amps I wonder if the 3.1 would be necessary or maybe even lacking. Looking forward to the review.

Are the Gallos going to be new? If so, you will need 200 hours of hogh power break in before the dual. Do not bother if they are not broken in, they are a different speaker after broken in. I was looking at ML before I went with the Gallos. I find that the ML's create a very nice, focused center image. The Gallos will create a similar image with a wider soundstage.SolidSqual wrote: »I've always wondered about the 3.0 gallo vs. the 3.1. 6moons.com did a head to head of the 3.0 vs. the 3.1. The 3.1 has a better transition from mids to highs, or so I heard. I have never owned a pair of 3.0's so I cannot say for sure.

These will be brand new ones but I plan on leaving them on pretty much all day and night for about a week before I critically listen to them.

I saw some Gallo's in Austin (3.0s) for $1200 or so. Might take a look at them if I get down to Austin again soon. Sounds like a hell of a deal. . .Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

You will have to crank them loud with really good amplification. Moderate listening will not position the drivers, they are compression drivers. They will "snap" into place when broken in. I used Massive Attack and other bass music. They will also not image as tall as your ML's. Many, including myself use stands with them to help. Later in your evaluations, try some simple Cinder blocks and see if you like them better elevated.
