Complete absence of Knowledge

Hi. Although far from stupid nothing has made me feel more so than trying to get sound out of my Carver Receiver-2000. I think I'm hooking up the speakers wrong or didn't push a button I should have pushed but?????? I'm completely out of my depth due to my complete absence of knowledge in this field. Can someone guide me to a pic of the correct spots to put the speaker wires? And if the thingy-bob you put the wires to has a couple of holes where do I put the wire in at?
Thank You,
Glenda

I was afraid of that reply. Like a TV stuck in mode whatever because of lost remot.
Please tell me that isn't the problem? If it is do you think a universal remote could work?

Is there any way you can post pictures of the back of the unit as it is setup now? That could make things a lot easier. If something is obviously wrong, we could see it clearly that way.

Glenda, the back of your Carver should look very similar to this one.

The RED and BLACK connectors are for your speakers. A bannana plug could be used in the center of these or unscrew the plastic caps until you see a through hole in the center post. Insert stripped back ends of speaker wire in to these and tighten down the plastic caps. The + on the rec. go to the + on your speakers, same for the -. The other side is your inputs, CD, tape Aux etc. Plug the R and L RCA connectors into these. I think there should also be a an A/B switch on the front. You must choose the corresponding A or B that you connected your speakers to on the rear. Select a couple different sources (Fm, tape phono) in case the one you try first is not working and see what you get. Does the front light up at all?

Thanks. Yes it lights up fine and displays proper changes in display panel, phono,am-fm etc. But no sound to speakers.I'll check the way I connected the wires again as you've described and see what happens. Won't be able to until first thing tomorrow though. If that doesn't work I'll try to upload some pics.
    Thank You Oh So Much!

I know this sounds very basic, but I had this happen, so here goes--

Check the A/B speaker buttons and make sure the correct one is on. My receiver has a selector on the remote, and I hit it by mistake and all of a sudden--NO SOUND!!

No offense intended, you probably checked all that already, but I tell you what, it had me going for several hours one day!!

My scentiments exactly. If you only have 2 speakers hooked up, this is the first thing to check. Press the speaker A/B button a few times.
