New to polk
After shopping around, I decided to go with a Onkyo 605 reciever, Polk Rti6 fronts, csi3 center, and a PSW505 sub. I havent bought rear speakers yet. I should recieve my speakers by UPS tommorow. As of right now I am running monitor 40 fronts, boston acoustic crc7 center and a boston acoustic xb2 sub. I bought the speakers I have now from circuit city and found the newly ordered speakers above for around the same price online. So I plan to return the ones I have now when the new ones come by UPS. Does it sound like a good upgrade? Im looking to get the best bang for the buck. I am wondering if the Rti6 speakers will be a big difference from the monitor 40. Also if the csi3 is a big difference from the ba crc7? I know the psw505 will blow away the ba xb2 sub. I cant wait to find out tommorow!!!!
Any comments would be appreciated.

Welcome to CP!!!
i don't have any experience with any of those speakers but they sound like good upgrades none the less.
I was wondering how you like your onkyo? I was thinking of buying one as well. -

I have had it hooked up since Friday and love it. My friend has the 505 and that is what convinced me to buy a onkyo. But I needed more watts per channel and a reciever compatible with blueray audio. Which the 605 is. I found it for 379 on amazon and am very happy with it so for. The only thing I wish it had is the preouts to connect another amp. That comes with the 705 and up. But that was out of the price range.
The main question I was wondering, Is the Rti6 speakers a big upgrade from the larger Monitor 40s???? I saved 4 dollars on the upgrade and am should recieve them tommorow by way of UPS.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables. -
Welcome,
You have the start of a good system. I know you tried saving money by buying the lower model receiver, take it from experience, I went through 2 receivers before I got it right. If I would have saved a bit at first or just paid the extra $$ I would have saved in the long run. Pre outs are a must if you plan on upgrading for more power. The rtis use better material and is an overall better speaker than the monitor, but truely only you can decide if it was worth the price. -
Thanks for the advice. I wish I would of researched more before buying the 605. I would of waited and bought the 705. But if I return it now I will only get half the money back from amazons return policy, plus I would have to pay shipping. I dont plan on building a system that needs an extra amp to run it. Maybe in a few years I will upgrade the reciever. One thing I did was cancel the polk psw505 I ordered. So I can research more and buy a better sub. I want something I will really be happy with even if I have to spend more. Any recommendations? I've heard alot about ED/HSU/SVS/Epik. But which one is the best for the 500-600 dollar range. Its really hard to pick a brand when they all have a option in my price range. I know everyone has there opinion, but I dont have the access to listen to any of these brands to form my own. My room is 15/20 and I would like something to match with my speakers. Rti6 fronts, Csi3 center (also should I upgrade the center to Csi5) I know its a better speaker but is it necessary with my system?
Any help would be appreciated.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables. -
I ended up going with the SVS 25-31 pci
I cant wait to see how it sounds with my speaker setup.Living Room setup: Pioneer Elite VSX-21TXH, Krell KAV 300i, PS Audio DL III DAC, Tyler Acoustics Taylo 7u, Dynaudio Audience 120C+, SVS 25/31PCI, B-P-T Clean Power Center, Ps3, Panny 50" S1 Plasma, Tekline speaker cables, Audio Art interconnects, and Pangea power cables. -
Wow you are not wasting any time, you will be very happy with that sub. As you already figured out the sub, unlike the other speakers you bought, does not have to match the other speakers. I have not heard the CSi-3 but think it will sound fine with your setup. If you have the money a space the CSi-5 is a great center.
When you setup that sub start the volume at 50% and work from there to get the best sound and get a Radio Shack SPL meter to help with the speaker levels. Let us know how you like it once you get it setup.AVR: Elite VSX-21TXH
