using Monitor CS1 as a Main

I have an older two channel R410 Sansui receiver in our bedroom. I did not have any speakers hooked up to it. I connected a Monitor Center CS1 speaker to one of the channels(no speaker on the other channel) I cannot believe how crisp the speaker sounds with the Sansui. The receiver sounds better than when I had two cheap speakers hooked up to it. I originally had the center hooked up to our Yamaha HTR 5635 5.1 AV system in the family room with Polk Monitor M30s. The sound was ok but not great. I then purchased a Monitor Center CS2, which sounded much better to me than the CS1.
Why does the CS1 sound better as a main in the bedroom? Is the receiver the reason for the crispier sound?
The dimmensions of the rooms are:
Bedroom is approx. 17x13.
Family room is 22x22.

Question: Does the center give the same stereo effect as 2 speakers?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!
