The IPOD shuffle (2nd gen) does not support Apple Lossless format.

Is that what killed it the first time or just a fluke bad unit?

Actually a mixture of 2 problems--my ipod definitely had a hardware problem, but the fact that I couldn't copy Apple Lossless just confused the issue.

Best Buy exchanged it, and now that I know that shuffles don't support lossless, everything is working fine. I had a feeling something was wrong witht he first shuffle, as it showed fully charged after only being plugged up for 3 minutes.
