    UHER4400Stereo001.jpg

For all you audiophiles... this recorder used GERMANIUM transistors as opposed to the silicon ones used in the later machines.

4 tape speeds (in metric, but the english equivilants are: 7.5,3.75,1 7/8,and (!) 15/16 ips)
    Uses 5" reels and has
Rugged Construction for those 'more than ordinary' field recording project
Independent record channels ability to record in stereo, or Chan I, Chan II, independently

Can also be used for film soundtracks, one channel serves to carry sync tone
Awesome recordings! Comparable to Nagra machines costing much, much more!
    Separate level Meters with illumination
Meter doubles as a Voltmeter to monitor battery voltages
Integrated power supply ('Phantom Power') at mike socket for condenser microphones
Fully electronic amplifier switching, Playback amplifier with balanced input
1/4" stereo headphone output, built-in mono speaker can monitor left , right or both (mix)
Buffer battery operation with inserted storage battery while amplifier is connected to UHER Power Supply Unit/Battery Charger Z 124A1. Upon mains power fall-out, the inserted battery automatically assumes the task of delivering the power supply. When mains power is restored, the battery is switched to recharge once again. Runs off 5 'D' cells or possibly a Lead-acid battery, side connector also can power recorder
    Still Supported!!

Well, there you have it; everything you'd ever want to know about the UHER 4400 Report Stereo Reel to Reel recorder (but were afraid to ask)

    Isn't that a flower? I don't get how/why it uses flowers in it's construction?

    Because it's German ?

BTW, I cut-n-pasted that info, I don't want anyone to think that I'm walking around with that kind of data in my head.

    .....or do I ?

Germanium is an element used in old transistors. I think there's a reason they quickly went to silicon. My father has one of those Uhers and I ended up with it. It's mainly a portable voice recorder. Developed during the war. Not all that reliabe.

The rest of that gear looks like studio or live sound recording effects equipment.

This is studio gear. I knew that there might not be much interest for them here but my friend asked to give it a shot. He used to work with alot of jazz people and is friends with Robert Cray. Hoping to meet him sometime.
