How much power is too much power for the RTi12

I currently am running a pair of RTi12's with a Carver M1.5T amp, which is 350 watts RMS. I just purchased another M1.5T amp and am wondering should I bi-amplify the speakers with the second amp. Would this be too much power for the speakers? Thank you.

No amount of power is too much, the more the better.

Hang tight, Cathy will be chiming in shortly. There's no such thing as too much power. Too little & you have a problem.

Nope, not at all. That's the way I ran my rig [only exception was I had the RTi10's instead of the 12's] for a while. Definitely bi-amp those puppies. Your ears will thank you.

Good luck getting the LED meters up and not getting deaf first. It will get LOUD. Just listen for any distortion and if any is present....turn it down a notch and you'll be good to go for years.

That is until the urge to upgrade hits again.

I love that about my system. You know you have a powerful rig if you never peg the LED meter on the amp!

ok thanks right now with one of the M1.5t's i have made it use the anti clipping which means that i had about 600 watts going to them i dont think i will have that problem if i bi amp wit two of them.

Ok now, something is not kosher if that amp is clipping on the 12's.

i had a song with some really tight bass playing up at about -9 db. The carver has anti clipping technology in it so it didnt have a hard clipp but it the top L.E.D came on and there was an audible sound when the L.E.D came on.

Geez-o-flip Charger! Don't turn it up THAT high! It has anti-clipping technology, but you can still damage the speakers running them THAT loud.

Yes, being vertically bi-amped will help this situation out. Just don't cook the coils or melt the tweeter.

A good rule of thumb with the setup you have would be to never hit the top LED unless it only hits maybe once a minute. That would be at the thresh hold of too much power for you. ;)

I hope you have a big room, otherwise you're gonna be deaf in ten years. Seriously. No, seriously.

I would limit your self to 1 horsepower of watts.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I have only let the top L.E.D hit one time. And the room is really small and i have two of the psw404s so i think i might have a problem with the going deaf thing.

Obviously, you need 4 of the 1.5s bi-amped to take advantage of the 12s. If you can't pop a zit, you're not loud enough.:p

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

By bi-amplify do you meen one amp for the highs and one for lows? If it were me I would bridge both amps mono and run one on the left channel and one on the right channel. Aren't those amps like 1000-1500 watts briged mono. I would bridge them and let'em eat.:D

You are going to damage your speakers and, more importantly, your hearing.

the amp for the tweeter/mids is the one i would be bein the most cautious about as tweeters can be verry easily dammaged by cliping and are actualy a smaller power rating than the bass/mids so cant handle all the power that a clipped signal will give.
and one other thing no doubt those amps have good cooling (apart from a fan which is just plain annoying most of the time)and thermal protection but in bridge mode they will get hotter as the outputs act like the impedance has halfed.and the speakers dont actualy give you a wrms rating do they ? just a recomended amp. im shure it'l be ok as there are people here with first hand experiance sayying so but i always try to consider the numbers first. even though a amp twice the power would be fine if you knew what you were doing with it (signal wise ect)

Ok the carver M1.5t are nor bridgeable so if i was to run two i would have to bi-amp them. The carvers also run VERY VERY cool and do not have any fans on them. I have played with one hooked up for 30 minutes with the LEDs just dancing and i checked it with a temp gun and the hottest part was only 130f (the carver turn it self off at 150ish). And to answer ward91's question i have had the top LED on the carver come on and that means i had 600 watts going to the RTi12 and no problem but i only let the light hit one time because when i heard the anti-clipping start working i got nevus about hurting the speakers
