I'm in the process of selling my old car, which I installed a pair of db525's and db690's. I just replaced my setup back to the stocks to sell it, and now I have these speakers sitting around. Not completely sure of what to do with them I got the idea of turning them into a small bookshelf setup for in-home use.
I started doing some research on how to power them, and I decided that this would be a great learning experience for me to build my own amps and power supplies (http://sound.westhost.com/project3a.htm). I'm a college student majoring in Electrical Engineering, and one of my professors said that he would help me through it with any questions I might have. I would order the pre-designed PCB's which allow for hi-fi quality amplification. So, that solved how I would drive them.
Now I'm trying to design the enclosure they will use, and I can't find very much information on what would work best. I understand that this isn't the typical useage, but this was the best use of these speakers that I could think of. So far my research has found the following posts which give me base volumes to work with: 6x9's and 5.25". Based on these two posts I came up with ~.2 cubic feet for the db690's and ~.32 cubic feet for the db525's. I was probably going with sealed boxes for these. But these numbers seem to conflict in my mind... shouldn't the 6x9's require more volume than the smaller 5.25's? Maybe that second post gave volumes for a ported design?
So, I'm looking for cabinet volumes or ideas that you all think will work best. thanks
