sr104 vs sr124

I have just installed sr6500 components powered by an alpine pdx-4.100 amp. It sounds incredible, and the bass is pretty good, but is lacking the depth of a larger speaker(ie subwoofer). I'm trying to decide between the sr104svc and sr124svc. I will be powering the subwoofer in a sealed enclosure with an alpine pdx-1.1000 amp. I'm looking for SQ as opposed to SPL. I see the sr124svc has a slighly lower frequency range and was wondering if it makes much of a difference. I can afford the sr124, but I am wondering what justifies the differences in sound quality, so please no "if you can afford it, buy it" responses.
Thank you.
Thank you.

No matter which sub you go with, you will get excellent SQ. Personally I would go with the 12" because you have more cone area which equals more sound with less power and cone excursion. This will give you lower distortion at higher output levels than a 10". Also your lower frequencies will be a tad louder due to more cone area. Both subs will be equally accurate and musical.

dude, go for the SR124, i dont think there is to much difference, but it is better than the SR104 just becouse of the bigger surface.Z

10" is going to sound cleaner.... 12" will hit a bit lower notes....
do u listen a lot of music that u need a lower note? or do u listen to all ur music that u want super clean.2013 Toyota Prius

I have the 12" and it sounds plenty clean...
If you have room for an enclosure that has 1.25 cubic feet of airspace, go for the 12". It'll dig a hair deeper with lower frequencies that the 10" version will just roll off, so if you can afford the extra real estate the 12" will require, go for it. I wouldn't suggest an SR104 wouldn't be enough for you, but on the off chance it isn't, the larger format will keep the upgrade bug away (damned upgrade bug ). If the SR124 is a little too much as far as output, you can always attenuate it some by level matching to the rest of the system using the amp's gains. -

Thats what I did. That sub can play pretty loud. -
I have 2 SR124DVC subwoofers powered by a Kicker SX1250.1 in a really small box (1.02cft for each sub after displacement.). They sound great. Fast and accurate bass and can go fairly low. I'm sure they can go lower than what I have experienced do to my box size though. I'm in the break-in stage so I haven't pushed them to hard but they can get loud. Can't wait to see their full potential.

wait i dont understand, why no one has even the minimum enclosure?
im asking becouse i recently build mine on a 1.4 cubic feet plus the driver displacement, for a total of 1.56.
the minimum enclosure for the SR124 (according to the white paper) is a 1.2 to 1.5 cubic feet, NET.
so its 1.2 + 0.16 of the driver minimum
and 1.5 + 0.16 of the driver maximum
why no one has it like that?, and even in the website overview says, that it is 0.8 to 1.2 for the SR104, not for the SR124.
please check the white paper

Wow this thread really piled up.
To answer what kind of music, it really depends on my mood lol. I listen to pretty much everything(including classical) except country music. It sounds like the sr124 is the way to go due to the range it can play accurately. -
the sr124 is a fast and acurate sub. no need to worry that the sr10 is cleaner. the sr12 is just as clean with more output. i listen to everything and my sr12's sound great with everything. they also blend very well with my front stage.kenwood excelon kdc-x991 h.u.

This is word for word out of the SR owner's manual that came with the sub:
Recommended
Sealed
Enclosure Sizes
SR104/SR104DVC-0.66cu. ft. (18.7L) net-
Important: Add driver displacement (0.12 cu ft/3.34L) to total volume.
SR124/SR124DVC-0.88cu. ft. (24.9L) net-
Important: Add driver displacement (0.14 cu ft./3.96L) to total voume.
So I have exactly the minimum at 1.02cft per sub after displacement. -

I have 1.20 cubic feet (net), and 1.06 after accounting for driver displacement...the minimum as per the white paper is 1.0- I'm legal . -

but net means that you should have that displacement having the driver displacement already inside.
so i have 1.4 net, it means 1.56 less the 0.16 of the driver equals to 1.4 net.Z

Ok I think i've decided to go with the 12" powered by an alpine pdx-1.1000 amp. Now I have to see how i'm going to fit it. I think i may need to have the sub angled up slightly to decrease the overall box height. Trunk opening from the back seats is barely 13 inches. I can get another inch, but I don't want to have to start removing interior panels just to fit it. I need to be able to remove it fairly easily when I take my car to the track.

but net means that you should have that displacement having the driver displacement already inside.
so i have 1.4 net, it means 1.56 less the 0.16 of the driver equals to 1.4 net.
I am well aware of what "net" means. Honest.
Minimum recommended by Polk is 1.0 for a 12" SR, so my enclosure size (after subtracting the driver displacement) is OK. Your figure of 1.20 as a minimum recommended enclosure size is a little off...even by the white paper you linked to.
Thanks for the lesson though .
