Use your Harmony remote with PS3

not all of you frequent avs forums, but there is a thread going that gives us several ways to use our harmony remotes (infra red) with the PS3 (bluetooth). the best one is a dongle that plugs into the usb port in front of the PS3. the best part about this particular unit is that it allows you to even use the power on/off on your remote. none of the other devices allow for this. it uses a sticker placed over the power button that sends some sort of static charge to turn it on/off, but you can still use your finger over the sticker to power up/down manually. the only issue is that you must use or borrow a playstation portable (PSP) to enable 'remote start' on your PS3.
i haven't bought one, YET. $50 is a bit much. but all indicators point to the fact IT WORKS! the owner of his own small business posts over on the avs thread. posts as MMuecke.

I read somewhere there's an infrared remote for the PS3 made by Niko (spelling?) that sells for around $20. In fact, I saw it at Fry's. Supposedly, it works with the harmony remotes. Haven't tested it because I don't own either devices.

yes, but it won't do power on/off. that feature is worth the price of admission. almost.

So does this device come with a dongle also? Just curious about that. Actually it would probably have to because the ps3 is all bluetooth.
I just don't really know about spending 50 bucks. I know the feature is nice and may be worth it, but I am happy with the ps3 remote. Sure it would be nice to have just one remote, but I will get over it. If the price comes down I would seriously consider it. But at this point it just not worth it to me. -

ditto, the PS3 remote is convenient, plus i dont mind having only 2 remotes in my system -

Yes, it has an IR device that attaches to the USB port on the PS3. Sorry, I don't own one so I don't have more info to give. -
YEAH, i was gonna go with the ps3 remote. but it's not backlit. my harmony is. so i'll scratch my head awhile longer, but i'm sure i'll end up with this thing soon. (not the nyko)
thing about the nyko, it comes with a dongle and remote. but i'd only be purchasing for the dongle. but again, no power on/off functionality with it. the other one does.
