PSW1000 placement

The PSW1000 manual states that the sub must be placed a minimum of 6" from a corner wall. Mine is about 7" from the side of my HT cabinet (which goes all the way down to the floor) and about 4' from the side wall, so I'm OK. But I would like to move it a little closer to the cabinet to reduce the width of my front sound stage and I'm curious, why a sub with two side firing drivers needs this much clearance when a down firing sub only needs a couple inches

Would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks

Different design principles. Sealed box design -vs- an open box. Damping material, weight of enclosure, amp characteristics. A multitude of other factors may explain your question.

    Let your ears decide.
