This is a must have if you have any liking for jazz. The music of course is amazing and the sonics are incredible especially for a record that was originally released in 1959.
It is mixed like many of the 50s & 60s LPs were. Dave Brubeck's piano starts at center stage and speads to the right of the right speaker. The sax is just inside the left speaker about a foot and 1/2 away. The double bass is just to the left of the sax and all of the drums, which incredibly enough sounds very natual, comes completely from the left speaker but spread across a few feet.
The vinyl is dead quiet although you can hear the master tape hiss.
I recommend this very highly.

I've got a couple pressings of this and absolutely LOVE it.
Definate must have.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
Ditto. Multiple pressing at various weights and 1 CD. May try my luck on the SACD version.

Ditto, great recording and performance. Another "must have" is sort of a companion piece called Countdown:Time In Outer Space. It's been out of print for awhile last I heard (on cd anyways). If you ever come across it buy it w/o hesitation.
"Castillian Drums" is incredible and one of my favorite demo tracks.

H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

You may want to look for the hybrid multi-channel surround SACD version of "Time Out", which features a HDCD-encoded CD layer. The hard part of looking for this SACD is that it's only available in Asia and Europe.

I have the two channel SACD of this recording and it is very good. There was a certain studio "magic" that muscians and recording engineers capture once in a great while. This was one of those recordings that has a timeless sound and the recording sonics are terrific. I love this on all formats. I also have it on a factory 7 1/2 ips R2R release. Sound great!:)Carl

I just so happen to come across the hybrid while I was in Hong Kong several years back. Cost me USD$17.00. -
Can you please post the barcode number (aka EAN) of this Hybrid SACD ?
Thanks and best regards -
