Amps...Quality vs. Quanity???
Howdy y'all.
I'm thinking about adding an amp(Cambridge/Niles Audio), and am wondering what a difference an 80wpcx2 amp would make to my rig-Denon AVR1905, 2-Monitor 60's, PSW303, 4- Monitor 30's, RM202.
The amp would only be to drive the 60's, everything else can stay with the rcvr.
So, the question is: Do I need a 200wpcx2 for the 60's, or would an 75/80wpc. work too?
Thanks for any feedback:D

I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

Ah, the meanig of life question
Need, is a subjective term. But to answer in a general sense, a seperate amp will almost always outperform an AVR any day of the weak, even if the amp is rated lower power. Most speakers will also reach their higher potential if run with quality amplification. But that does not mean that more power is always better. I think that you will like an outboard amp better for almost all aplications and music/movie tastes.
Whether or not you need the outboard amp is really up to you. Why not buy one with a trial period and see how you like it. If the difference does not meet your expectation, return it.

Thanks for the feed back. I bought the 60's a month ago for really cheap $, and if I can tweak them to full potential, then I don't mind spending the money- especially for any future speaker upgrades.
I'm trying to find a dealer locally to 'hear' a difference, but in this area we're stuck w/ b. buy, c.city etc.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -
200wpc vs 80wpc.....this is a question for cfrizz to answer.....she'll be around...just hold tight.

Not trying to come across as rude, but...
Nine posts a day means you spend more time typing than reading. Get your read on. This topic has been beaten to death this month. Its probably brought up at least 3 times a day.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I would suggest at least 200 wpc, that would hold you over for a very long time and is enough power to drive almost any speaker out there should you upgrade.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Check out www.audioadvisor.com. They have a 30 day trial period and are a good company to deal with. Also check out www.outlawaudio.com, the same 30 day trial and their amps are also very good.

I'd take quality over quantity any day. But it's also important to match your amp to your speakers. My next amp is only going to have 75wpc."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. In Columbia...check out Upstairs Audio, I've heard that's a good shop.
In terms of power....nail, head. Quality over quantity. Don't get all wrapped around the axle about power ratings, in most cases 50wpc with a coupld of db headroom will do you just fine.
