What is kicking your ****? My tint is so dark I don't need to flip my mirror at night, and I'm ok with it....That looks like stock tint, what is it 30-40%?

I have a good friend that has owned a tint/detail shop for over 20 years and there are some vehicles that he simply refuses to do. I've used Llumar for many years, great stuff and cheaper than 3M....with no draw backs in my travels.

I agree. The llumar stuff is excellent. Iv'e used solargard and johnson windowfilms as well. Llumar smokes them both IMO. I'm just an amature tinter though.

i used to tint houses, businessess and automobiles. but i didn't get much practice on rear windshields. winter season came around and i had to find a job that paid year 'round. you think that rear is hard to shrink, try a '93+ chevy camaro hatchback rear! them **** curve in more than a few different directions. yeah, we used formula one tint, which i believe was made by llumar. don't recall. but i know we used llumar on buildings.

gsrbob, you ever do any ammonia and black plastic bag removals yet?... ever do it on a 112 degree day with a hangover from the previous night's drinking?

Yeah. Definitely sux on a hangover. I usually use the plastic release sheet from the tint for removals. Never done a Camaro, dont think i would want to either. The 100+ wheather can be hell in the summer here.

yeah, use ammonia and water 50/50 and spray the old tint directly. cut out a large black plastic bag as you would the tint on the outside and then place it inside and it will stick to the h2o/ammonian and let it sit in the sun. the heat will break down the adhesive. sometimes you're screwed and have no choice but to razor the old film off. thus losing your rear defroster.

    Hey fellas --

Been thinkin' about installing window tint on my car. I found an installer who uses Llumar and can do it for $189. I live in Georgia so the summer season is hotter than a horny blonde in a **** bar. When the temperature reaches in the mid 80's and higher, the leather seats in my car get extremely hot and the steering wheel cover is almost too hot to touch.

My question is -- how effective is window tint in keeping the inside temperature of the car at a reasonable level? Or is tint used primarily for aesthetics? Or would it be more cost effective for me to install a remote start so I can run the AC for a minute or two before entering the vehicle?

    Thanks.

Tint is very effective at keeping the heat out. I parked our car outside in Phoenix during the summer with the windows closed, it got to 170F inside! After tint and using a front windshield inside shade, it kept it "down" to 130F.

Remotes are fine for non-extreme hot weather, the AC has to work too hard to cool off a heat-soaked interior, opening the windows works better for that.
