Yes, the display has three settings. Off, Lit and Nuclear. This is controlled via the remote. When off, the player is completely dark except for the small blue LED near the power button. This LED casts almost no light however.

Oh man, I would love to hear the difference between XLR and RCA with this player. I have never had the pleasure. You've made a great purchase. Please add a review to this post once you get everything setup and settled in for a while. I would be interested in your own pre and post break-in experience.

    You can count on it!

I'm anxious as hell to hear all your new gear too. Get well so I can make it down there on Sat. for a listen & maybe a trip to Overture.

I'm anxious as hell to start posting pictures of all the gear everyone is always discussing. Ricardo has a sick setup with pics on an other thread. Once I get my new amps I'll post some pics as well.

Another testament to this player is the high resale value it consistently demands on audiogon.

    Hi Solid,
Great write up, thanks for the info. I may end up with an 840 down the road. I am looking forward to Phil's review.

The volume buttons on the 840 remote can be used to operate a Musical Fidelity pre amp. (It works on the A5 pre) It may even work a MF integrated also.

I'm in the group that would recommend allowing one to break in for a while b I'd recommend using one with a tube preamp as it may be too clinical in an all solid state system with bright speakers.

I noticed in your signature that you show the 840c in the same system with your SDA's. Are they the speaks you are using the 840c in currently?

Just trying to get an idea of this player's interaction with SDA's with the silk dome tweeters.

    Thanks,
    Wes

I think it complements the SDA's with the silk dome tweeters perfectly, with the SDA's being fairly laid back speakers to me with the replacement tweeters. The only reservation I have with SDA's is when trying to listen to music from the '60's that made excessive use of channel separation (i.e. Beatles putting voice and guitar in one channel and drums and bass in the other with no mixing). The 840C emphasizes this more, kicking the sound out further to the sides with this kind of gimmicky recording technique than I've experienced before from a CD player, leaving a huge gap with nothing in the middle between the speakers. That's pretty rare though.
