What recommended power range for these speakers

Hi, Got some new speakers for x-mas and I want to get rid of my old Sony receiver and go seperates. I am looking to get a amp or amps to power these but I don't know what to get as the recommended power inputs are different. My fronts are the RTI-A7's (20-300watts), Center RTI-A6 (20-200) and Surrounds FXI-A6 (20-150). I also have a DSW-500 pro for a sub wired through the speaker inputs/outputs. I don't run the sub when playing music so I have the fronts set to large and the others set to small in a 5.1 configuration. I use this set up for 90% movies /TV and 10% music in a small room. I find my self running them now with a 100w/channel receiver always set about 10 to 11 oclock position as I have a serious hearing problem for high level sounds (too much gunfire when I was younger) Could I use a 200 x5amp or would I overpower the rear speakers. Thanks

Having too much power is rarely the cause of speaker damage. The more common problem is trying to play too loudly with an underpowered receiver and thus causing clipping/distortion which can damage the speakers.

    Go for the 200x5 amp!

I used a Carver amp that was rated at 250 watts/channel into 8 ohms for speakers rated at only a fraction of that recommended power. I sold the Carver because I thought is was overkill, and am currently using a Yamaha RXV-657 which has 95wpc power rating. A film like "Open Range" seems to use every last bit of power my receiver can dish out even at moderate levels and I can sometimes hear it. I was wrong about selling the Carver. More power is usually better if you can afford it.

That pains me just to hear you say that.

Buying as much power as you can afford is a good idea. The 200x5 would be a great option. I just tried my 600wpc Carver on a tiny pair of old M&K table top speakers that look like this:

The speakers sounded better than ever and I doubt they were rated for more than 100w back in the early 80's. Moral of the story is clean power is good. Now go out there and make us all proud!

Thanks for the info. Think I will do the 200 x 7 as I have an additional zone to power also:)
