WOW,Thanks for all the replies guys...I knew there were some Carver fans around, but had no idea.

You all know this hobby well enough to know that I'm just wantin' to try something different.

I've been quite happy with the Parasound amps...just got the bug to try something new.

    Thanks again,Mike

    Mike,

    I've been tempted...nevermind...

Anyway, don't waste your time with the Carver's. I thought the Parasound completely smoked my old 1.0-t and was still a bit better than the m4.0-t variants as well.

I'd keep going up the Parasound/Halo foodchain or branch out.

    Wes

Going from Parasound TO Carver? Yikes!
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

You guys are too kind, thanks! The power company loves me George! I had to run two dedicated 20 amp lines for my audio equipment. Drop me a line the next time you and your wife come up to Western PA. Listen with your own ears.

And yes the R2R is in there. Actually it's at the Teac Service Center getting some head, I mean heads. I asked them to go through the machine thoroughly to make any adjustments and/or replace questionable parts. Nice thing about Teac, most of their parts for the R2R machines are still available.

Thanks guys,I respect everyones opinion...I've read where Carver can be a love/hate relationship.

I'm such a newb in this area,I've only owned Adcom and Parasound amps. The quest will continue, just not for sure in which direction.

Mike,, for years I've listened to my brothers 2.3tl's with a tfm-45 and a ss carver pre(can't remenber the model). We replaced the pre with a dodd elp and I thought that the sound was much improved. The carver was less bright to my old ears and the soundstage was incredible. He has since moved on to larger ss, but he won't let go of the carver. I'm gonna borrow it from him, hook it up to my 1C's via elp.I'll pm you the outcome. I don't think that I'll be disappointed,, but if it were me(after looking at your gear),I wonder what your system would sound like bi-amped with a couple of belles 350 refs,or one of the larger BAT amps,or a MF monster. Have fun and enjoy.:)
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

I've been looking at a lot of amps. on A'gon...What's so appealing to me is the Carver prices.

    Looking forward to your opinions...Mike

While I like Carver amps....I don't think his SS preamps are as good. I'm not saying BAD but they don't have the life that a good tube pre brings. The phono stages are excellent though, I'd buy one just to use as a phono stage.

I agree TroyD. I have stuck with his amps, but tried to avoid the SS pres and receivers.

I had the opportunity to hear a Carver amp head-to-head with a cheapo entry level receiver and the difference was astounding: wider and deeper soundstage, more subtleties, better detail, crisper. It was an eye-opening moment. 320 WPC too.

I'm pretty happy with the front end, just looking to experiment a little with the amp. end.

I might wait a while and gather a little more cash and try to snag one of those big,bad beautiful Classe amps. :D
