Made my SDA's "disappear"

Listening to Nickel Creeks first album on SACD. I was gonna sit down and read the paper and relax for a bit. Fired up the Denon and Yamaha, switched over to Multi-Input. Fiddled with the level adjustments, (My sons only know +10 when playing the 360!). Put my chair where it belongs when I listen to music and they "disappeared" before my very ears!
All I can say is DAMN!:D

I don't know where mine are most of the time.

I know the feeling:)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I'm starting to see that now, Joe.

Gone. Just gone.
Most of the time they sound like 1 speaker, but from way left to to way right. Just 1 speaker.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -
Mine are trying to hide from me, but there's no room for escape.
-
I've still got a ****-eatin' grin on my face!

Mine recently disappeard into the storage unit until I move in June.

I know that feeling and it sucks!!!:( -
The concept that a speaker "disappears" is fine and dandy. I know what you mean, but I actually enjoy looking at my 1.2 tl's while playing, hence they never "disappear". Whether they do or don't is somewhat arbitrary (like everything else) in this "love-hobby"......:):)
-
I use my SDAs for everthing from music, to movies, to the xbox. I am constantly amazed, especially with movies, how much it sounds like I have a center channel and sub hooked up to my system. I never liked rear surrounds, so the fact that it doesn't sound like I have any is fine and dandy by me!
My SDA2's will never leave my setup. I've had the same setup for the last year, and I'm still perfectly content with it! Until something dies on me, it will remain the same... no upgradeitis, here!Ludicrous gibs! -
Mine disappeared today!
-
Mine were gone so long I replaced them.
madmaxVinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
Got a second pair of SDA-1A sitting here. Stock, in and out. Anyone want to make these disappear?

I listen with my eyes closed so they both visually disappear and sonically disappear. -

It wasn't a concept I was looking for, it just happened. I'm a happy camper. -
And then when you listen to a pair of non-SDA speakers it makes you wince because you can tell EXACTLY where the speakers are...
I'm missing mine - they're at school, I'm not. I won't see em till Jan 6 or so -

IMHO, all really good speakers can "disappear" given proper placement and equipment. It's an indicator of quality. I am not sure the "SDA effect" makes it easier for SDA's to "disappear" than other high quality speakers. Others can weigh in on this. My feeling is that the "SDA effect" is independent of speaker "disappearance".:) -
You are correct Sir! ^^^^^^

I wouldn't say speaker disappearance and the SDA effect are independent, but I would agree with your statement that sufficiently high quality equipment and speakers can disappear as well. I would say that SDAs have an easier time disappearing into a soundstage given a certain level of quality in the rest of the components than non-SDA speakers (if this makes any sense at all). In all the stereos I have heard, I have heard soundstages that extend outside the speakers, but the placement of individual voices was not nearly as crisp and precise as with my SDA system. But I have never heard a really "high end" system. -
Is the SDA an "EFFECT" or a more correct reproduction of live music or the way the artist/engineer/producer wanted the listener to hear the material?I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D
-
I'm leaning more towards the correct reproduction. Recording engineers try to tailor the sound as it is in the studio, concert hall etc. Subjectively of course. SDA Effect is a correction of "Inter-aural" crosstalk as I understand it.
One thing I do know is sounds o so sweet!:D -
Lightman I agree with you but I almost always hear "it" refered to as the "SDA effect" which to me sounds like a gimmick.
To me it is not a gimmick but countless hours of research on how we hear sounds and correction for the flaws created by sound coming from 2 speakers.I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D -

The SDA effect was never intended as a gimmick and it is not such. Few have stood the test of time so well. -

Thaaaat's it! The Effect is only as good as the media, source and delivery to the speakers themselves. Lots of variables. That can be said for any brand and type of speaker.
It's not a gimmick by any means. I've taken the drivers and X-overs out of one set and have been studying the sumbitches for a month or more. Cabinets, guts, etc. Only thing I can come up with is "Damn, it's a simple design and sounds incredible!".
Go figure.
Russ likes pie. See new Sig. -
Re: disappearing. Mine reached a new level of this when using Jim Goulding's custom woolen felt surrounds for the tweeters of my SDA 1Cs. Wonderful product from a good guy who was eager to make things just right. Click on the link above for my review in AC.
