13 wpc Ipod Tube Amp Thingies...

I've got one inbound from doggie and, since I know absolutely nothing about tube amps, I'm wondering what kind of speakers they'd be able to run.

13wpc aint much, by my understanding is that, w/tubes, a little goes a long way.

Got any recommendations or thoughts for me?

Thanks for your help. :p

13wpc will run a pair of bookshelves quite nicely.

I've got a 15wpc Marantz receiver in my garage rig and it plays loud enough for me.

    Most "any" bookshelves?

Don't some require more power than others? LSi 9's for example?

    Thanks

WOW!!! No kidding! I've got RTA12's too & am looking forward to hearing them w/a 13 wpc tube amp in comparison to my 50 wpc NAD.

I hooked up my LSi9's to that Marantz....for my listening tastes and volume, it was just fine.

Again, many of you have bought into this myth that you NEED a gazillion wpc and for most applications, it just ain't so.

That said, I haven't heard this amp...so, I can't speak to how robust the power supply is, however, 13wpc is fine for most applications.

Hell, my reference amps are a mindblowing ~25wpc.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think there may be some confusion regarding the little ipod tube amp: I believe (again, someone correct me if I'm wrong) that it's a hybrid design using a tube line stage and a digital or solid state amplifier, rather than an "all tube" set. That's not a knock on it, and I still want one, but it's not really 13 watts of tube power. The third tube is not a power tube, but an "eye" tube that displays relative power level.

Regardless.....my Marantz is 15wpc of SS power.

Hell, my first trip to the desert, I had a little SS Rat Shack integrated (8wpc) that ran a pair of R2's about as loud as I cared to listen.

Unless your trying to drive inefficient speakers way down low to ear splitting volumes you just don't need that much power. My ADS bookshelves were AMAZING on a whopping 2W amp. I was so giggly on it I annoyed the piss out of Russman raving about it. 13 W should be more than enough unless you're trying to throw a dance party or something.

FTR:My reference amp is a whopping 30 WPC
