This is a sprayer made for cleaning monitor screens. I picked one up to try with record cleaning fluid because I found it for $5 in a bargain bin.

I must say it is working out nicely with the VPI 16.5 vacuum cleaner. If I spray it over 1/2 the lp for one revolution it is the perfect amount for when the brush is dry. (Always takes a little more the first time). After that I hold it a little higher and mist the whole LP at one time. This puts a mist on the paper center but hasn't been causing any problems so long as I wipe it off with the supplied fiber cloth. My guess is I could slow the motor down a little and make it perfect by going to 2 batteries rather than 4 but it is fine the way it is. It is made to spray upwards towards a screen but a slight modification fixed that. I shortened the little filler hose 1/2" and positioned so it was at the front of the tank instead of the back. Very easy.

Remember that feeling of awkwardness you had on the first few records you cleaned? This sprayer makes you feel the same way at first but it goes away after a few records once you get comfortable with it.

I recommend. Fits well visually too. I could see this thing costing $80 or more if it were being sold for this purpose. I took mine apart and found it to be made quite well inside. The look of the sprayer is very good quality too. This is a no-brainer even at $10 plus shipping.

I'm glad I didn't buy the shark when I thought I had the chance. I've got to try this out.

I just find it hard to believe that my records could get any cleaner than what I do in my normal cleaning procedure.

Would you use this in lieu of, or in addition to, the steam cleaner?

In addition to the steam cleaner. This is just for applying the record cleaning solution. It dispenses better than pouring out of the bottle. It also makes you become more consistant and use less liquid cleaner. The only other alternative is to put cleaner in a spray bottle.

I've found that a spray bottle with a four inch foam paint brush really spreads the fluid evenly. Six to ten sprays depending on the filth factor then two rotations on the 16.5 with the foam brush and it is a go.

I still have to wonder if using a steamer is going to get the records cleaner than I already get them. I guess I won't know til I get my but to K-Mart and buy the shark.

Man, it may not be that easy. I went to every store I could think of within 40 miles and no one has them. I notice on the shark website they are no longer listing them. Luckily I found an Ultra (red one) model at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was the display model but looks unused. I hope the ultra model isn't too big.
