How about a recommendation for a used sub?

I am jumping aropund a bit here, but I am looking to fill the spot of a blown Polk sub for my theater system. ( not a high end system )
What would someone recommend who has knowledge in sub's, to replace a blown unit with a "big bass" sound from a used unit? What would I want to look for that isn't just a sub, but something that would provide a low rumble when watching movies?
To be honest with you, I have the old unit still. The box is in great shape. It looks like a 10" , but depending how to measure it ,it could be considered an 8". Everything is in great shape except it's not a powered unit and the inside speakers are junk.
I don't want to spend a lot on it but would be open to options and opinions to replace it or ungrade it. I want to have some low bass rumble while watching movies.
Thanks

Look for a older M&K MX-100.
I look at new subs out now. And can't make myself change. The old M&K will knock stuff off the walls and make a drink head for the nearest edge of a table. Knocked one of my wifes collector plated out of it mount just today. Its now shattered. S&M does it every time.Current:
M4, M3II, CS200, M&K MX100
Running on a Sony STR-D965

You can't beat them for the price."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
Agreed with Face, Ed is the bang for buck sub to have or Epik. You may wanna check audiogon or ebay for a used SVS.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I concur with Sherardp. IMO SVS is an awesome sub that you can buy new. You can email Ed over there and they will set you straight. These ones are terrific, although not small by any means, definitely good bang for the buck.

The cylinders I have are passive so you need an amp channel to drive each one. I love them so much I have two:

You might also want to check their "B" stock. I see they have an minor blemish SB12 for $649.

Forget about SVS subs. SVS subs are okay for HT use. But they are TERRIBLE for music.
Don't buy into this whole SVS hype. A friend of mine bought into the hype, and now he really regrets buying that SVS sub.
I would recommend either a Hsu VTF-3 if your main use is primarily HT, or a Velodyne SPL 1000R if your main use is primarily music. -

Depending on the SVS model, they are more than OK for HT. They are great. I agree that for music they leave a lot to be desired.Sharp Elite 70
