I have a receiver with no subwoofer ports. It has 2 front, 2 rear and 1 center for surround sound. I have blown my Polk sub recently and would like to replace it with something decent without spending a lot.

Knowing that I don't have a sub port......can I still use a power sub?

I seen pictures of the back of one and it showed the output ports that you connect bare wire to, but it looked like the sub inputs were RCA jacks. Since I don't have that access can I use a PSW?

Please let me know your thoughts as I want to replace it as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance

Carl

Some subs do infact have an internal crossover that will send the low frequencies to the sub and pass everything else through to the main speakers.

    Thanks Frank -

I am looking at a used Polk sub with no real i.d. numbers on it. The back of it has the 2 RCA ports and the picture I see shows a top row for single wire connections that says "speaker level output". Under that row is another that I cannot see. Would those actually be to connect a line into from the receiver? And if so, what wires would connect to them?

( edit ) I just looked again at the picture available and it says this....LINE LEVEL INPUT,
SPEAKER LEVEL OUTPUT AND SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT....so, knowing this with your knowledge, can I use this with a receiver that has no "sub" port by plugging in the PSW and then running my current speaker wires in and out of it? I hope this helps you understand what I hope to do now.

I'm just looking for some help. I know that the information is vague, but it's all I have to offer.

    Thanks again

    Welcome.
If you've got a stereo receiver, and want to utilize a sub, you wire the front's via the sub. That 2nd row of speaker connections you mentioned, that you couldn't 'see' the description for, is the 'speaker level input'
You wire from the rcvr. to the inputs on the sub., then back out, from the output's to the speakers.
    Good luck
