Does anybody know anything about or had any experience with the yamaha YP-D6 turntable. I am thinking of buying one. I am not looking for anything great. I just want something to help me get aquainted with turntables. Eventually I will be buying something high end down the road. I just don't want to learn any mistakes the hard way with something expensive. My dad had this same unit when he was younger so I thought it would be an added bonus for him to be able to see it again. Any comments would be appreciated!

for your first table.. it would behoove you to find one locally.. some sellers don't know how to properly ship a turntable.. special care has to be taken with the platter and dust cover, not to mention the cartridge and needle.
look for a $20 to $50 turntable in your city/town/neighborhood instead. that's the best advice I can give ya.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

If one had to be shipped. Could you tell me what care should be taken so I could pass this knowledge over to the seller? Considering the area I live in and me having a suspended license right now. Local buys are hard for me. Thanks.
Edit: What about the cartridge or needle? I hear it is one of the most important parts. Where can I buy one and what should I lookf for? -
I would recommend NOT having one shipped unless it is from a manufacturer.

Good Greif. Looks like it might be a lot futher down the road before I buy a TT. I had no idea they were so sensitive. I guess I'll just keep an eye on my local craigslist. Maybe something will pop up. -

Sorry I didn't want to discourage you but the chances of the seller having a the original box with layer to separately pack the dust cover, platter, tonearm protection etc are slim. Plus the fact that seller is probably not going to get more than $100 for the table and won't really be worried about careful packing.
I sold a turntable to a friend recently and drove it down to the Georgia Polkfest so he could take it home from there.
PS: I just read the description the seller put up, me personally I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole let alone $10. -
I agree with H I, I had some trouble after a TT was shipped to me. Next time it's local or new."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Thanks guys. You probably saved me from making a big mistake.
Are there any options buying something on the cheap new from a manufacture for a beginner TT? Or would it be best to watch my local craigslist? -
I have a YP-D6. It is a good deck. Heavy and well built. Mine sounds great and is very resistant to rumble. I agree though, buy a deck locally. It will be cheaper, you won't have to worry about shipping, and you will see what you are getting. I paid $65 for mine and got to listen to it before buying.
