Opportunity to buy Snell Speakers

I have ran across a pair of some very vintage Snell Speakers. I believe they are the Type A speakers. Each speaker is a 2 piece unit. The bottom unit has a subwoofer and the upper unit has the midrange and tweeter. The upper unit is basically a black cloth grill. They seem to be in OK condition. One of the subwoofers is blown however.

Are these speakers worth any money? I can't seem to find much info on them. I have heard the Snell A/III speakers were some great sounding speakers. Not sure what variant of the Type A they are though. On the back, it just says Type A. Does anyone have pictures of what I am talking about so I can confirm the series.

I can get these for $200 bucks, possibly a little less. Would these be worth restoring? I have't had a chance to hear them however.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance.

These are the speakers I am talking about. These in particular are not the ones I could get. I found this pic on the net. They look exactly like them though.

I believe those models are fairly valuable, but as far as an actual amount I don't recall.

If you're buying them to flip them, I don't think you'll realize a great deal of profit.

If you're buying them to see what they can do, you need an amp.

Had a pair 3 years ago, decent sound, but they take up a LOT of real estate. Had trouble selling them, ended up getting $325 for the pair. That being said, I saw a pair in my area go for $850 last year.

Weird speaker, biggest 3-way I've ever seen. That bottom section has a single 10 inch woofer, and that huge top section? A single 4.5 " midwoof - the same as the DQ-10 and lots of Infinity models, and a single 1 " dome tweeter. The selling point was the 'perfect' acoustic curve of the baffle they are mounted on.

    Cheers,

Snell made some great designs. Resale? Very poor.
You like them, plan on holding on to them for a while
or don't bother. Old Snell house sound is laid back and warm.
I had some type "E" that I couldn't give away.

Snell reminds me of ADS in regards to laid back sound.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I saw a pair of those up here in Seattle for about $700 this year and I was considering biting because of the design and reviews. $200 is a no brain deal, even if you just resell them a month later.
