I have somewhere between 300-400 dollars to spend. I am a college student who lives in a small apartment. I was wondering if you guys had any advice about which part of my system you would upgrade. It is a hoge poge of stuff that I have collected over the years. Right now my system looks like this:
Polk Rti4 Fronts
Polk Csi3 center
Bose series 3 surrounds
Sony STR-DE685
LG LRM-519 for DVD, CD, DVR
PS2
I don't play a lot of games. My system is mostly used for watching TV and Playing DVDs I also use it to listen to CDs. I'd say it is probably 80% HT and 20% music. I tought about a sub, but I really can't do that with my living situation. Anyway, I was just curious to see what you guys would recommend given my budget.
Thanks for your help,
Brian

A nice set of headphones would add to your enjoyment and a great set could be bought well within your budget.[

depending on your TV, I would dive into HD DVD.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Any chance the folks will give you some cash for Christmas? If so, you could put it all together and get a nice used tube CD player, which will vastly improve your music enjoyment.Political Correctness'.........defined

I would say some RTI6s for the front, and move your 4's to the back(especially seeing you can't run a sub), or an HK, or Dennon receiver if music is your taste.
Welcome to Club Polk
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Since you're 80% HT I would get rid of the Bose surrounds and get some matching Polk's if you've enjoyed them so far. -
I agree with Ben, move the Rti4's to the rear, and get Rti6's or better, for the front, especially since you have no sub.

I'm going to go with this except I would move the 4's to the back and put even bigger speakers up front. $400 should land you a nice pair of used Polk floorstanders for the front.
EDIT: What William said as wel. -
I would consider selling the whole kit on E-Bay and starting fresh. Look around your apartment and see what else is just sitting around. Almost guaranteed you could raise another $200 [plus whatever you get from the sale of your existing stuff].
Really map out what you want your system to be and you'll be light years better by next Christmas. Birthday I want this, next Christmas I want this. Just a thought. My Main Gear
