Woke up this morning and the fridge was broken. Called the repair man, he came out and it's $1100.00 to fix. I have been up since 3:00am because I'm sick as a dog. I get to work late due to the fridge only to find one of my over head doors (10ft x 22ft) is broken. Then to top it all off. I log on here only to find NO MORE TBT!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only is that closed but so are two threads complaining about it.
I don't know whats worse. Putting out the $1700.00 for a new fridge or not having anything "tasteful" to start my day.

Oh, and I forgot the kicker. My father in law waited for the repair guy so I could go to work and not wait for him. After screaming at the guy for what would be a high repair bill if I fixed it,he calls Sears and makes threts from my phone. This guys an ex hippie for god sake. I though they were supposed to be non-violent.

Maybe the Bellamy Brothers can help you out on the old hippie thing?

    He turned 35 last Sunday
In his hair he found some gray
But he still ain't changed his lifestyle
He likes it better the old way

So he grows a little garden
In the backyard by the fence
    He's consuming what he's growing
    nowadays in self defense
He gets out there in the twilight zone sometimes
when it just don't make no sense

He gets off on country music
    Cause disco left him cold
And he's got young friends and a new way
But he's just to frickin old

And he dreams at night of Woodstock
and the day John Lennon died
how the music made him happy
and the silence made him cry
yeah he thinks of John sometimes
and he has to wonder why

    (chorus)
    Cause he's an old hippie
and he don't know what to do
Should he hang on to the old
Should he grab on to the new
    He's and old hippie
this new life is just a bust
he ain't trying to change nobody
he's just trying real hard to adjust

He was sure back in the sixties
    that everyone was hip
then they sent him off to vietnam
    on his senior trip

and they forced him to become a man
while he was still a boy
and behind each wave of tragedy
    he waited for the joy
now this world may change around him
but he just can't change no more

    (chorus)

Well he stays away a lot now
from the parties and the clubs
and he's thinking while he's jogging round
sure is glad he quit the hard drugs

Cause him and his kind get more endangered everyday
and pretty soon the species will just up and fade away
like the smoke from that torpedo, just up and fade away

    (chorus)

yeah he ain't trying to change nobody
he's just trying real hard to adjust

Refrigerators are over-rated I would buy some audio gear and a new cooler for your beer.

    Sorry to hear though.

I guarantee you it's mostly labor. My sister's fairly new fridge broke and the repair guy said it would be $500 to fix so they bought a new one but kept the old one. I asked her what was wrong, bought the $5 part and had myself a new fridge just in time to move into my new house. That was 4 years ago and the thing still works great! If he told you what was wrong, call your local appliance parts place and ask how much the part is. You may be able to fix it fairly cheaply yourself and then sell it to recoup some costs of the new fridge.
I know just enough to be dangerous, but don't tell my wife, she thinks I'm a genius. :D

Used goods in our house only seem to have a high WAF when it's something for dad (A.K.A. me).

I paid $1800 for that fridge 6 years ago. It has needed repair every year we have owned it. This year it's the compressor. Like a fool (after I bought the new one) I called a parts dealer and the compressor and the handful of small parts needed came to about $500.00. Now I just have to laugh at the whole deal or I may just flip out. I am done with sears though.

Sears? HA. I worked for those a**holes for two months, as a service tech fixing their over complicated/ over priced garbage. They'll get your $ either thru "extended warranty" or waiting for it to break.
If you can live without the bells & whistles, buy a stripped down model for $400.00
You may not have an issue for YEARS!
    Sorry for your troubles

What manufacturer and model have you had that many problems with?

I would call the manufacturer directly and rip them a new one.......granted, I wouldn't have spent money on repairs each and every year though........
