Best Turntable Record Cartridge for SDA-2?

I just discovered this forum yesterday. I am a long time Polk Audio supporter, having bought a pair of Monitor 7's in 1980. I am the proud owner of Polk Monitor 4, SDA-2 (the originals), Polk CS1, PSW 10 and 4 Monitor 30's for the surround and 4 Polks in the auto, of course. I sold the Monitor 7s to my younger brother who still swears by them today. I would too, if I still owned them ;)

Having also just discovered records again, what is the best Cartridge for my system in the $100 - $300 range?

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V661 (2007)
Turntable: AR Turntable (1987 model)
Current Cartridge: AT 155LC (1989?)

    Can your Yamaha handle the low voltage of moving coil cartridges.

    Imagine that, I would have never thought this mid line receiver would be capable of using MC cartridges...it is unadvertised anywhere on their web site/literature for this particular receiver. Having never had the opportunity to use a MC cartridge, is the lower volume output normal? What would you use to bring the lower volume up, a Phono Pre-amp? What is a good one if to consider that is the case?

    Having said that, I never realized how good a cartridge I currently have (AT155LC) based on some research on this forum and other sites. What does a MC bring to the table that a MM doesn't. What are good MC cartridges to consider?

    Here is a link to a very high level explaination of the difference between the two.

    A good moving coil cartridge that you can start out with is the Dynavector 10 x 5. You see them typically priced at $380 but you can do much better if you shop around the net.

    The 10 x 5 is a higher output MC cart and you won't find yourself turning the volume control up too high to get a decent volume.
